USA, good defense causes a France turnover

Angel is mauled..kinda shoulda passed out of that...but throws it up and is shooting 2

USA defense causes another turnover.
WOW - Nneka bullet pass into Dupree in the paint for an easy 2

USA 8 of 8 in the paint!!
 
What a start for the US. Beautiful basketball. BG and Tina tearing it up inside.
 
32 - 16 on a france score....almost 2 minutes into the quarter.

Seimone scores on the other end...

France turnover, and USA turns it over on an ambitious fast break play....threw up a hail mary that had no chance of hitting it's mark

Sue Bird is back in, USA tough defense causes a shot clock violation...well, we got the rebound, but the buzzer sounded, too

France is being harassed by USA, throws up a 3 just as the buzzer sounds, and makes it.

Dee answers with her patented 3 on the other end....

France tries to get another 3, misses ball moves up to court and Sue sends up a sweet jumper for 2
 
Bit of a rumble in the paint on the other end, USA comes out with it, and is fouled
 
USA has had some misses....Bird has to sit down because of a bloody cut Whalen is in

Gruda again another 3, and then Whalen does a little song and dance move, gets the shot off just before the buzzer. Half over, USA with a comfortable lead
 
USA playing so much better than I've seen in this tournament...still letting Gruda have open shots, but she isn't killing them like in the exhibition.

BRING ON STEWIE.

USA started the game 14-14 from the field with another 8 or so free throws. And then the shooting got terrible - Tina with the first miss and it became contagious! USA finishes the half shooting 79% after being at 100% for the first quarter - ugh!
 
I LOVE watching Augustus on offense. She has such a beautiful game. That jumper is a thing of beauty.

Good news - USA commits a total of 5 fouls - no one with more than 1.
 
The new and mellow Auriemma. Surprised Geno is remaining so calm because France cannot score inside, yet his perimeter defenders are consistently going UNDER the picks/screens allowing France to get long but decent shots off. I know they're pros, but if this game were in Storrs, and his 'guys' were defending the "3" like that, Geno would go ballistic.
 
France in their exhibition win outscored USA 50-34 in the 2nd half. Don't expect the same to happen today. However, can't expect USA to shoot 79% in 2nd half
 
Well maybe that was their game plan, give up the 3 on certain players and not let Gruda dominate in the paint. BG has obviously changed what Gruda did last game so we will see the 2nd half game plan coming up.
 
Very odd to see Griner miss so many FTs. She's usually money from the line.
