Irwin to Gabby underneath. Kyla can pass!

Gabby has 20 at the half.

fantastic Kyla pass to Gabby. If Kyla were 3 inches taller, she'd be Stef in the making....

59-9 at the half.

That quarter was much better for Pace. They lost "only" 24-7.

Yes, the competition is what is it. But still, half-time impressions:
  • Gabby has upped her game another notch from last year; in an open court she's unstoppable
  • Pheesa has certainly improved (hope she's okay)
  • Butler shows more confidence and fluidity
  • Molly shows great court presence and maturity
  • Kyla, my-oh-my, we've got a good one there....
  • Most importantly, for a team with so many new moving parts, it is astonishingly well-greased: team defense is superb and passing to cutters and to those underneath is really, really impressive.

Re KLS. Announcer said: She hasn't been practicing a lot lately. Lot of bike and stretching." Hmmmm.....

Announcers note limited practice and riding the bike for Lou. Not good.
Poor Lou. She has bad luck. Last year it seemed like she was always sick, and when she finally was better she broke her foot.

My observations over the first 2 quarters...............
1st Quarter:
Starting lineup - CD - Collier - Gabby - Chong - Nurse.
Their full court press at the beginning of the game was effective.
Collier was working very hard on the boards.
CD running the point to begin the game. Bent subs in for her at the with 5+minutes to go.
Gabby was perfect in the first quarter going 7/7 =17 points.
The score of 35 -3 at the end of the first quarter is a product of UConn's smothering defense, and Pace being a little over matched.
2nd Quarter:
All 3 freshmen started the 2nd qtr along with Chong & Butler.
It was good to see Lawlor get into the game, and play an extended period of time.
Irwin looked particularly good in the 2nd qtr.
Butler's mid-range shots are going in.
Gabby finished the half with 20 points.
No turn overs by CD so far.
No Lou in the first half. They really don't need her today.
I didn't see anything that gave me paused to be concerned.
A good first half of play and effort by UConn.

One must now wonder if Lou is in Geno's doghouse.

We know no one is immune.

Gabby 22, Chong 10, Kia, Napheea 9, Butler 8, good team effort
