We've curb-stomped a few teams now in the Elite Eight. This game (it was 53-29 at half, we won 87-71), Gonzaga in 2023 (82-54), Illinois in 2024 (77-52).

I'd say Gonzaga from 2023 is a worthwhile rewatch. We were favored by just 2.5 points, and everyone was scared of Drew Timme and his impact. Timme finished with just 12 points on 5-14 shooting and we rolled in the second half. Andre just missed a triple double with 8 points, 10 assists and 9 boards.

Oh I've rewatched that one, believe me! Curb-stomped is a fair description. Just totally punched them in the mouth.

While I agree contextually, I would never in a million years rewatch this game. In fact, the only UConn loss I think I have ever rewatched was 96-97 against Kansas who at the time were being lauded as one of the greatest teams ever. We had just lost Kirk and Ricky and were starting three freshmen, a soph, and a juco with essentially no bench. The first 10-15 minutes of that game is one of my most memorable UConn games ever and it was the moment I knew we could win a natty with that core.

Agreed. Once I rewatched the 2002 loss to Maryland, but I stopped watching right before Maryland took the lead for good.

If Caron didn't get his 2nd foul in the 1st half...

...UConn vs Kentucky at MSG in December 2009. We had a squealing Kentucky fan behind us and I do mean squealing like a stuck pig as they went out to a 12-0 lead. Their fans were delirious. After our 16-0 run I turned around and told the guy he could relax now.

He was OK, but that game showed me their fans weren't as confident as we had always imagined. If not for a great game by John Wall our young team could have won............still our only loss to Big Blue Nation!
Wall was incredible. Felt like he and Kemba were three steps faster than everybody on the court.
That was the only time I’ve seen Kentucky play in person. I had no idea how well they traveled. What was that attendance breakdown, 55/45 them? 60/40? I was shocked.
I remember the end of that one vividly. Had great seats. We were up one, and KY gave the ball to Wall who was guarded by Sticks. Sticks was low in his defensive stance, but flat-footed--not up on the balls of his feet--and I remember thinking, "Wall is going to blow by him." And he did, for the win.

Fantastic game, MSG was electric. But I will never rewatch a loss like that. The memory is painful enough, thank you.

My white whale for games to see from the past is January 20th, 1982 against Georgetown. 63-52 win against the Pat Ewing led Hoyas at McDonough Arena. Been looking for this game on YouTube for 15 years
I started recording games in 1984. I would love to see that game. Somewhere I have an audio cassette of the game with the great Marty Glickman doing play by play.

Random but if you want to watch the 2004 team play at its absolute peak, rewatch the Elite 8 game vs Alabama. We ripped their hearts out of their bodies and stomped on them.
That's my pick. Bama was on a roll, they thought they had a chance.

My favorite non-championship tourney game.

We probably cost Timme a spot in the draft and millions of dollars. Sucks for him, he should have gone pro the year before. Oh well, too late now.

Not the best outcome but one of the greatest ever played.

I hate that game. The Huskies were never down in the game until the 6th OT. They had a bunch of chances to put Syracuse away. I understand the nostalgia of a 6 OT game in the BET, but it was a frustrating game and ultimately a loss. Who needs to watch a loss from 15 years ago?

That reminds me of something I thought about before, how we've ruined a lot of different programs' seasons multiple times, like we're their white whale, and we basically never think about them. Is there any program that's beaten us in the Tournament more than once in recent memory? I guess Duke over 30 years ago (edit, I guess we lost to Maryland in 2021 after previously losing in 2002). Meanwhile, we own:

  • Duke (1999, 2004)
  • Kentucky (2011, 2014, and 2006 for a deep cut)
  • Gonzaga (1999, 2023)
  • Cincy (2011 and I want to say sometime in the 90s)
  • San Diego State (2011, 2023, and 2024)
  • Washington (1998 and 2006, in the same round, and in similarly heartbreaking fashion)
  • Bama (2004 and 2024)
  • Purdue (2009 and 2024)

Probably others I can't remember.

This would be the last game I would rewatch. Maybe close with the Duke game after Tate’s shot to beat Clemson.

Agreed, it wasn't a well played game and we had a zillion chances to close it out and didn't.

Also it foreshadowed how UConn could get eliminated from the NCAAT. The Huskies, I recall, in that 6OT game had missed FTs that could have sealed the deal. After they lost that game, I turned to my friend and pointed at the TV and said "these missed FTs could be a problem that gets them eliminated from the Big Dance". Lo and behold it did. They shot 21-33 on FTs against Michigan State.

First half was one of our best half’s ever. Ben and Rashad were on fire. When that team was clicking they were beautiful to watch

Or, how about ruining one program's shot at history TWICE in the same season?

I give you Florida, 2014.

If not for us they had a chance to go 39-1, win the national title against a Kentucky team they had already beaten 3 times and stake a claim to being the best college basketball team of the 21st century. They went 18-0 in the SEC and won the conference tournament too. They would have also won 32+ games in a row.

Instead, Shabazz and Boat are probably still living rent-free in Scottie Wilbekin's head. 36-1 against the rest of college baskeball that year... but 0-2 against us

Go back and watch that game for the masterful job that Shabazz and Boat did as our 2-headed defensive monster, as well as the national coming out party for DeAndre Daniels. So sweet!

Some classic games mentioned already, always good to rewatch those. But does anyone else have a game they love for some obscure or personal reason? Tryna dig into the games I might not have watched or rewatched at this point.

I think it was Fishy somewhat recently mentioned Rash Jones game 1998 BET tournament championship, that’s a good one

2002 and 2004 BET Championship games vs Pitt .UConn,Pitt were the bottom of the BE for many years, but when they both made it to the top the rivalry was great . I would be glad if it was renewed. If that B12 BS got you down , just wonder where UConn would be if Hurley went to Pitt . Enjoy the present.
