A 10-day stretch without games is never ideal, especially this season where there’s a premium on getting them in. It’s what UConn has to deal with. They’ll finally return to the court for the first time since Dec. 29 when they host Providence this afternoon in Gampel Pavilion. Providence (5-6, 3-3 Big East) has managed to avoid any COVID-19 shutdowns thus far, as a result playing the most games of any school in the conference.
They’re 1-2 in their last three games with losses to Xavier (64-50) and Seton Hall (77-71) and a win Thursday over Butler (62-50). With a win, Geno Auriemma will tie Pat Summitt’s mark of 1,098 career wins, which is second on the sport’s all-time wins list behind Stanford’s Tara VanDerveer (1,104).
Here’s the skinny on today's game:
Site: Gampel Pavilion
Time: 1 p.m.
Series: UConn leads, 40-21
Last meeting: No. 3 UConn 105, Providence 49, Feb. 12, 2013, in Providence
TV: SNY (Meghan Culmo and Allen Bestwick)
Fans outside of SNY’s market can watch the game on the Fox Sports App or https://www.foxsports.com/. Some fans said they can only access games via fox.com/sports or the Fox Now app, though, so try that if needed. The games might not appear on those sites until right around tipoff.
Radio: UConn IMG Sports Network/97.9 ESPN (greater Hartford area) Pregame show 30 min before the tip with Bob Joyce.
UConn roster
Providence roster - Head coach: Jim Crowley (5th season)
Game Notes
Tip in - Disappointed about the cancellation of the Baylor game, UConn women look to carry momentum into today's game.
Saturday's Big East WBB schedule:
Providence at UConn, 1 p.m.
Butler at St. John’s, 2 p.m.
All times Eastern
