GENERAL COMMENTS:
This is the second meeting between these teams. The first was held at Finneran Pavillion and UConn won that game easily 83-52 (31-point victory). Sarah Strong had 21, Paige had 15 and KK had her best offensive outing of the season going off for 15 points as well. We saw how good UConn's defense was coming along as UConn could hold Jasmine Boscoe to 12 points and Maddie Webber to 5. This game will be played in front of UConn's home crowd and if UConn plays anywhere near as well as they did against Seton Hall they will win this one easily. It was interesting to see Aubrey get 11 minutes in her first game back. I expect to see her getting more minutes and getting back into game shape which in my opinion (I'm sure in many other people's as well) does not bode well for UConn's competition. UConn is an offensive juggernaut when compared to Villanova with UConn averaging 79.5 points and Villanova averaging 65.2 points per game. Now that UConn has three strong, healthy players they will be even more difficult to contain...Paige, Sarah, and Azzi going forward are going to be extremely challenging for every team UConn faces. We are seeing UConn's offense, its 3-point shooting, and its defense coming together and it is a great time in the season to be doing so especially with Tennessee and South Carolina lurking in our near future.
This game should see our starters playing roughly about 3 periods and our bench getting significant minutes as Geno begins to cement his thinking as to who his starters and dependable subs will be as he begins to shorten the bench moving toward the post-season. Overall, I look for Villanova's starters to be undersized compared to UConn: 2 forwards and 3 guards (6'0", 6'0", 6'0", 5'11" and 5'7"). Villanova will start with two graduates, one junior, one sophomore, and one freshman.

PLAYER MATCH-UP:
Jana El-Alfy, 6'5" - R-Freshman - Center vs Denae Carter, 6'0" - Freshman - Forward. In the first match-up on January 5th Carter had 10 points and 5 rebounds while El-Aly had 7 points and 5 rebounds. Jana is improving and must be more assertive in this match-up. On the season Denae averages 9.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, .7 steals, and 1.2 blocks. Jana has averaged 5.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, .5 steals, and .7 blocks. Even though this is a home game in front of a friendly crowd, I don't anticipate this match-up changing much this time.

Azzi is averaging 11.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, .8 steals, and 2.0 three-pointers per game. ADVANTAGE - UCONN
Kaitlyn Chen, 5'9" - Graduate - Guard vs Jasmine Boscoe, 5'7" - Freshman - Guard. In the first match-up, Jasmine had 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 three-pointers. Kaitlyn was held scoreless, she had 4 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals. For the season Jasmine has been averaging 15.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 three-pointer per game. Kaitlyn averages 5.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 9 steals, and .5 three-pointers per game. The advantage in this match-up is obvious thankfully we have KK who can come in for Kaitlyn if she isn't able to contain Jasmine. However, as far as the starting match-up goes... ADVANTAGE - VILLANOVA
