GENERAL COMMENTS:
I have had enough time to mourn our first loss of the season to Notre Dame by 11 points. There are a lot of "could of," "should of," or "would of" that I could list here, but what for? We lost a game to a top-tier team on their home court early in the season. A game like that provides good source material for the coaches to draw from when motivating the team to step it up defensively and offensively. So, we move on to game #10 and I have to tell you I wouldn't want to be Georgetown in this next game. I will be looking for UConn to have a huge "bounce-back" game on Sunday. Even without Fudd in the line-up, I expect the margin to be quite large. Georgetown (5-SOS; 23 RPI) has four losses: Wisconsin - 31 RPI; 73 SOS; Cinncinati - 148 RPI; 242 SOS; FGCU - 119 RPI; 242 SOS, and George Madison - 49 RPI; 44 SOS. UConn has an RPI of 5 and a SOS of 15. UConn's only loss was to Notre Dame who has a RPI of 6 and a SOS of 9. UConn is 8 and 1 while Georgetown is 5 and 4. Georgetown is a low-scoring team averaging only 64.7 points per game. They give up 58.3 points per game. They tend to turn the ball over 15.1 times per game while forcing their opponents to turn over the ball 13.7 times.
PLAYER ANALYSIS:
Ice Brady - 6'3" - Redshirt-Sophomore Forward vs Ariel Jenkins - 6'3" - Senior Center - Ariel averages 13.1 points, 10 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game while Ice averages 5.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and .6 blocks. Ariel averages 28.1 minutes per game while Ice averages 21.1 minutes per game. ADVANTAGE - GEORGETOWN
Sarah Strong - 6'2" - Freshmen Forward vs Victoria Rivera - 6'0" - Junior Guard - Victoria averages 22.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. She also manages to average 2.8 three-pointers per game. Sarah averages 16.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.4 steals, 1.4 blocks per game. Sarah also hits 1.9 three-pointers per game. After Sarah's disappointing 3 early fouls, I expect that she will watch her fouls, and by her being on the court and not the bench I think she will play a much better game. ADVANTAGE - UCONN
Paige Bueckers - 6'0" - Redshirt Senior - Guard vs Kelsey Ransom - 5'10" Graduate - Guard - Kelsey is Georgetown's best player as Paige is UConn's. Kelsey averages 21.1 points, 6'1 rebounds 4.2 assists, 2.3 steals. She makes 1.1 three-pointers per game. Paige averages 19.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 2.2 steals. On paper, these two players look to be equal...however, keep in mind that Paige gets her numbers in 29.4 minutes per game while Kelsey averages 34.5 minutes per game. Additionally, I believe that Paige Bueckers is the hardest player to guard one-on-one in women's college basketball. I expect this match-up to be a great one. ADVANTAGE - UCONN
Kaitlyn Chen - 5'9" - Graduate - Guard vs Khadee Hession - 5'9" - Freshman Guard - Khadee averages 5.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. Kaitlyn seems to be settling into her role on this Huskies team. She is averaging 7.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. I believe Kaitlyn's experience coupled with the fact that she has faced stiffer competition so far this season than Khadee that Kaitlyn will prevail in this match-up. ADVANTAGE - UCONN
Ashlynn Shade - 5'10" - Sophomore Guard vs Jayda McBride - 5'10" - Freshman Guard - Jayda averages 5.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. She also hits 1.0 three-pointers per game. I am expecting a huge bounce-back game for Ashlynn. I think Ashlynn will be motivated to put the ND game behind her and I also think that Geno will want to get her on track and will be looking to rebuild her confidence. This season Ashlynn is averaging 6.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.6 steals, and hits on 1.4 three-pointers per game. I think we see Ashlynn's offense spark back to life with pull-up jumpers and three-pointers. Her on-ball tenacity will also make life difficult for freshman Jayda McBride. ADVANTAGE - UCONN
BENCH:
UConn's bench was rather anemic in the ND game...I am sure it was a long ride home for them from Indiana and they too will be looking for a bounce-back performance. UConn's bench averages 18.5 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. Georgetown averages 12.2 points and 10.8 rebounds off the bench. ADVANTAGE - UCONN
INTANGIBLES:
UConn is home and looking for a bounce-back game. The players will want to show that they are better than what they showed in South Bend, Indiana. Too much size and athleticism for Georgetown. ADVANTAGE - UCONN
COACHING:
Geno, Daly (two hall-of-fame coaches), Jamelle, Tonya, Ben and Morgan....so much experience on that bench. ADVANTAGE - UCONN
SCORE:
UConn - 92
Georgetown - 46
MOV - 50
