<<I was referring to the Reno metro area.>>

Sorry to get a bit testy about that... My Cousin Lew's dad Lance Pettengill had about 40 yrs in as a SPRR engineer and lived in one of the houses moved in from Wadsworth about '07 on flatbed cars. Sparks and Reno used to be about 2 miles apart (with the Midway Saloon being the tradition dividing line)... Yep, your right, the two have megalopolized (?) into an amalgamation rivaling Connecticut's 169 towns in an area smaller than Washoe County.
[You DO mean the Reno-SPARKS metro area... Right, podn'r?!]

<<Despite Gabby's uber jumping skills, her smaller hands only allow her to dunk a softball so far.>>

So, how many points do you get for dunking a softball?
Might be interesting to see Muffy if we beat NDame in a championship game by a 1/4 point.
[Could result in a new color we'd call Gabby Purple...]

<<Just make sure those folks bring enough food with them for the trip.>>
Food is secondary...
For safe winter passage ...a jug of Te'killa anti-freeze going west and flask of Akevitt or Brennivin from one of the waterfront bars in Oakland coming east.

[WARNING: If yer invited to the Donner Party... DON'T eat the hors d'ouvres.]

The latest (2013) delineation from the Office of Management and Budget is the "Reno, NV Metropolitan Statistical Area." For 2 decades, I was on the interagency committee that advised the OMB on metropolitan and micropolitan statistical area standards and delineations.

NOTE _ Donner is a reindeer, not a horse. And what's wrong with the horses doovers anyway?

There are dunks and there are dunks. I can see situations, where everything lines up just right, where a dunk for Stewie is the highest percentage and most natural shot. When she got the break-away steal in the last game, I thought that might be one of them.

If yer goin' t' git yer mustangs really clean... should be usin' a 'orse Hoover, shouldn't ya?

Just as long as the name "Alferd Packard" isn't mentioned in the recipe ....

I can't think of a freshman who has come in without very high expectations (E.g. #1 rating, ect.) who has wowed me more than Gabby. I feel the same way about Kia Nurse. Those two are extra special. Such a delight to watch.
Thats what I said about Gabby all along!

Nice little interview shown of Gabby today during the game. I like her attitude. Very down to earth and says that she's just here to try to help the team.

It is very possible that by tournament time she will be the seventh player, with Kaleena seeing more and more time at the two and Morgan/Stewie seeing more time at the three. It's a shame she as of now struggles so mightily at the free throw line; that will keep Geno from using her at the end of a close game. She is going to be a great high post player by her senior year; right now, that is where her game profiles best. Looking forward, Geno may be forced to use more and more P-W-W-P-P sets to match the skill levels of his players, rather than the two guard-triangle sets that he loves to run. It will indeed be interesting to see if an old dog starts using new tricks.

Gabby was ranked the #1 recruit in her class by at least one service prior to the first ACL injury. So while expectations may have been lower due to the injuries the talent shouldn't be as much of a surprise.

Gabby is rapidly becoming one of my all time favorites. She makes every minute count. One point though about a reference to her having more offensive skills than certain players including Barbara Turner. I don't agree on that, at least not yet. Barbara could score. I think Gabby is not quite like anyone I can remember. Swin Cash maybe? A nose for the ball, aggressive around the hoop, really good jumper. Swin wasn't a great jump shooter, but got better as her career went on.

I don't think she ever got to #1. McCormick put her #2 for a while after seeing her at the Nike TOC. She was 6th at Blue Star and top-10 at PN before they moved others in front of her.

Sometimes when she goes up for a rebound I confuse her with Kiah.

I'm constantly surprised by Gabby. She just seems to appear, as if by magic, to grab a rebound, tip a pass, etc. It's like she isn't there, and then she is. Just different than anyone else.

It is tell the difference between Gabby and Kiah's rebound. Gabby rebounds like a men's basketball player, with force, ripping a rebound. Kiah does not do that.

<<I'm so glad she made the trek from Reno to Storrs.>>

No, no, NO!
Gabby is not from Reno.
She is from Sparks, Nevada ...a fundamentally different town. Reno is a gambling town... the divorce Mecca of Nevada since 1931. Sparks is a railroad town... the hub of the Trans-Sierran division... a blue collar working persons' home. When you need something hauled over Donner Pass in the dead of Winter, you get someone from Sparks.
["Reno is so close to Hell, you can see Sparks"... old Nevada wisdom.]
Actually they are right next to each other and sometimes you don't know which city you are in without a map. Most of the casinos are in Reno but some are in Sparks. She played at Reed H.S. which is about one mile from Reno. :)

Sorry, I was a bit confused by all our Carson City NDOT staff meetings, where the department lead engineers, persistently, referenced the Reno-Sparks Metro area.

Wikipedia (also a laughingly disputed source) mis-cites it so:
<<The Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of two counties in western Nevada, anchored by the cities of Reno and Sparks. As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 425,417.[1]>>
Even more peculiarly... the second county referenced is Storey Co (probably more for the trailer park out along the Truckee River and not up at Virginia City)

<<She played at Reed H.S.... :)>>

You're understating it. She REALLY played.
My little cousins were all Sparks High Railroaders, the Reed Raiders were, justifiably, the envy of all. [Considering all that time Gabby was playing out of position as a guard...!]

You can see her tremendous ability. And it seems like her coachability matches that, so she has everything needed for great success if she stays healthy!
And she is such fun to watch! Her jumping style is unique - perhaps from her high jumping with that leg-kicking, twisting style. Looking forward to seeing more of her.
