I believe that if Q was thrust into the lineup and played as many games as Shade or KK, she would not have been a distant third.
time will tell...........ultimately, she's going to have to prove it to Geno.....

Yes, all freshmen have their struggles but compared to Shade and KK, Q was a distant third......
I mostly agree, but "distant" is a little harsh. That was last year. This is this year. Ash and KK picked things up quicker than Q last year. If Q can reach the same level of understanding, with her long reach and athleticism, maybe not so "distant" this year.

I sure hope so but if you remember KK and Ash were key members of the rotation and while they both made their fair share of freshmen mistakes, I'd say they were both major contributors to UConn's success.......as a matter of fact, UConn doesn't make it to the Final Four without them......

when the time comes the only thing Aubrey has to prove is that she's healthy enough to be effective......Geno loves her unique skill set and the hustle that she brings to the court in every game.......
You're right that her game depends on her physicality. It will remain to be seen how much of her previous physicality that she'll be willing & able to perform. You have to admit that some players could take longer than others to overcome any limitations after surgery. & such a long lay off. She may or may not be as effective, that's the question that will need to be answered starting with team practice.
AFAIK Geno coaches for all of the marbles & will do what he thinks is best for the team. Her PT isn't automatic & just like in the pros every player is expendable, sometimes out of necessity & sometimes because coaches have other options sitting on the bench.
If Aubrey comes back at 85% & someone else is at 100% then who will get more PT is anyone's guess.

who remembers the ranking of aubrey by the 'services' coming out of high school. i think it was it the 30s. proof that geno's assessment is superior in recruiting matters.

Some sites had her anywhere from 20th-30th. ESPN had her 21st and what a Class 2019 was!! Holy smokes!

To be honest, I had anticipated Q being forced to the end of the bench by all of the talent brought together by Geno this year with the only time she would get would be garbage time after the game was completely decided.

Of course that opinion was based entirely on her play last year when her approach seemed to be solely "enter game, chuck from outside".

Now, based solely on the exhibition game, I have much higher potential in mind. In this game, she came in and made things happen in ways that reminded me of Gabby and Aubrey, which I understand may be a stretch. Like these ladies, Q is highly athletic but so was Mir.

Yesterday, she was using that gift in much more diverse ways, not only scoring from both outside and inside the arc for double digits, but also being a presence on the boards and even dishing out 3 assists in what seemed like around 15 minutes.

Again, it was just an exhibition game, but she displayed a spark reminiscent of Gabby and Aubrey which could hopefully give her that instant energy role that those ladies provided at crucial times in previous seasons.

Let's hope!
Mir NEVER played the way Q has both last year and in the exhibition this year. The man reason is Q played way more minutes than Mir ever did and, while she had a tendency to mainly shoot 3s, she also showed that she would slash to the basket and late in the season, tried to play a "little" D. Who knows what Mir could have done is she received the minutes Q did last year in Mir's freshman season.

Your assessment of your come back percents are incorrect. Take Aubrey for instance, she is a key player that can player better at her 85% that most other players (not elite) playing at their 100%. Geno would have Aubrey on the court without a doubt if needed.

Any of them. The beauty of positionless basketball. It's also situational depending on the match ups. If you want to push the ball then substitute her for Ice or Jana depending on who is in there and push the tempo with small ball. It's about where you want to go with the game at that moment.

There is a tremendous upside with her. You just can't teach that kind of athleticism. When she becomes the defender she is capable of becoming and gets more confidence she can be a consistent game changer off the bench. We met her after the Seton Hall game last year in South Orange. Very nice young woman and we are big fans of hers.

Gabby at UConn was fast, can jump higher than anyone in the team's history (followed by Stewie) but her offense was underdeveloped because she missed almost all of her junior and senior years in HS. Aubrey is fast afoot but doesn't have the same hop or defensive strength against bigger ladies (Wilson, etc.) Gabby was asked to do her last two years. I don't think Q is as fast or can jump high as Aubrey, certainly not like Gabby. With her frame/upper body strength, she won't be able to hold her own defending against big girls like Wilson. So, this proposition diminishes Gabby if the intent was to say their athleticism are comparable.

Please correct me if I'm wrong (I know that I don't have to ask.) Wasn't there a video of Q dunking the ball in HS? Or am I confusing Q with Ayanna? I'm probably confused again.

She proved her healing ability when she was back in the rotation 10 months after back surgery and playing better than before her surgery. True, there is a question but the odds highly favor her.
