The questions on the table are:

1) Which games in 2012 and 2013 get cancelled/moved to make room for TCU?

2) Do the Maryland games actually happen?

3) Does Michigan buyout the 2013 return game?

  • 2012 - Massachusetts (08/30); NC State (09/08); at Maryland (09/15);
    at Western Michigan (09/22); Buffalo (09/29)
  • 2013 – Towson (08/29); Maryland (09/14); Michigan (09/21);
    at Buffalo (09/28); Temple (10/05)
  • 2014 -UCF (09/13)
  • 2015 -at UCF (09/19); Tennessee (09/26)
  • 2016 -at Tennessee (09/03); Virginia (09/17)
  • 2017 - at Virginia (09/16)

If the Maryland games don't happen, problem solved. If they do happen, the Buffalo games probably get rescheduled.

If the Maryland games happen and the Michigan game is bought out, the 2012 Buffalo game probably gets moved to 2014 and all is well. That would be my guess anyways.

Michigan must pay UConn $2 million if they cancel the return game in 2013.

my guess is that the UConn buys out Western Michigan, as we will likely not play them as often as we seem to play Buffalo. I have a bad feeling Michigan buys us out, but if not we try to bump the Buffalo game a year later first (Michigan game probably will boost season ticket sales, and thus would make more money with 8 home games than 7), then the Temple game.

As it crazy as it sounds at first, couldn't we conceivably buy out UMass? We booked them as a I-AA, and they won't be, for this game.

I'm guessing that due to the potential restructuring of much of the FBS (primarily BCS schools), decisions on adjusting future schedules will be made far later than they normally would have been. There is no reason to make multi-year adjustments now on adding TCU to our schedule if further adjustments, beginning in 2013 (or earlier) will be needed. If there is only one 2012 to be addressed at the moment (which is where we sit right now), that decision can be delayed for a while.

If it weren't for what is going on with B-12 schools, we would probably be nearly complete with making arrangements to fit TCU into our future schedules. As things sit today, it would make little sense to put any effort into something that may well need to be redone a few months down the road.
