And I hope I didn't make any mistakes:

Season defensive % numbers (Total, 3PT%, 2PT%)
38.3%, 34.3%, 40.5%

Wins:
35.7%, 30.8%, 38.4%

Losses:
42.8%, 40.5%, 44.1%

Not shocking there is a huge difference in wins and losses.

However,

w/o Boat
37.5%, 33.5%, 40.1%

w/ Boat
38.7%, 34.6%, 40.7%

w/o Calhoun
41.1%, 36%, 43.8%

w/ Calhoun
37.0%, 33.5%, 38.9%

w/o Boat or Calhoun
39.5%, 34.8%, 42.2%

Full team
36.6%, 33.5%, 38.1%

OOC:
36.6%, 35.9%, 37%

BE
39.3%, 33.3%, 42.5%

Now of course the schedules may have a large effect on the differences but it is interesting nonetheless.

Interesting stats, but like you said the schedules probably have a lot to do with that, especially since the cupcake portion of our schedule was entirely "w/Calhoun".

I feel like the sample size is too small (and doesn't normalize for opponent) to draw any definitive conclusions. I would say that, anecdotally, we do play better with JC on the bench.

Thank you or the work and very interesting. So the conclusions (as I see them) are that (i) we play better D with Calhoun than without him, (ii) Boatright's absence did not effect our D materially one way or the other, and (iii) as the season wore on we got better at defending the 3 point line but worse inside it.

I kind of disagree on the Boatright comment, he did probably help. Keep in mind the quality of opponent he played against was much higher than the quality of opponent he missed playing against.

Interestingly, Calhoun coached against more (10/22) NCAAT teams/games than he missed (5/11). With Calhoun, UConn was 6-4 against NCAAT teams (UNCA, FSU, Harvard, WVUx2, USF as wins and Marquette, Georgetown, Cincy, Cuse as losses). Without Calhoun, UConn was 1-4 (win @ND, losses to ND/Cusex2 and UL).

NCAAT Teams w/ Calhoun (10 Games)
37.8%, 30.9%, 41.6%

NCAAT Teams w/o Calhoun (5 Games)
45.9%, 43.0%, 47.4%

Now Cuse really skews the numbers:

Cuse's first game was really crazy shooting:
59.3%, 62.5%, 57.9%

They dropped off a bit after that:
38.1%, 47.6%, 33.3%
38.5%, 21.4%, 44.7%

Anyway, I'm just having fun.
