I am going to list 2. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. I saw them live in the old Boston Garden on December 11, 1987. Bird went for 35pts/9rebs/8asts. Magic went for 18pts/8rebs/17asts and he hit a nearly half court buzzer beater to win the game. They went at it the entire game and when Magic hit that buzzer beater I’ve never heard a crowd more defeated. This was, of course, the season after the junior sky hook in game 4 of the finals. As an 11 year old, I was heartbroken over the results but in awe how these guys never stopped competing.
Sitting 2nd row on the floor between the basket and foul line at the old original Nassau Coliseum watching the New York Nets early in 1975. Time seemed to stop..., mesmerized I was as the Good Doctor, Julius Erving, took off from the foul line seemingly floating in slow motion before my eyes as he hung in the air on his way to a thunderous dunk...
Bill Russell vs Wilt Chamberlain in around 1963. I remember the Celtics were way behind and came to win 93-92 I believe. I was 7 or 8 so I don’t remember the details. I do remember however that the Garden was full of cigarette smoke. Fans could light them up during the game in their seats back then.
