NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference has announced the remainder of its women’s basketball schedule from the end of December through early March. Tipoff times and television coverage are being determined and will be announced at a later date.

BIG EAST play resumes after a break for the holidays on Dec. 30, when Connecticut visits Marquette and Providence travels to Xavier. Butler at Georgetown follows the next day for the final game of the 2020 calendar year.

The final weekend of the regular season runs Thurs., Feb. 25 through Mon., March 1 as all 11 teams have at least one contest, including the finale between Butler and DePaul.

They should have squeezed in DePaul if they're going to travel out to Milwaukee.
That would make sense, but we are talking about basketball scheduling and when did they ever make sense. Heck a couple of years ago UConn had the final home game of the season at the XL center forcing the Senior night celebrations a week earlier at Gampel.

My guess is because scheduling is not the simple exercise as we see it. Probably numerous factors, some of which we are aware, others not so much, that affect the way scheduling is done.

I really like adding home and home games vs a tough Marquette team ahead of UConn’s trip to Waco to play Baylor. My concern now is what is the status of UConn WBB tomorrow vs Xavier and for the next week or so following the news today of positive Covid cases within the Seton Hall WBB program?

Nothing will be easy this year.

That would be a very long road trip. Maybe one the team would find difficult to endure.

It would only be two games - stop in Chicago to play DePaul, then a couple days later bus up to Milwaukee to play Marquette. As it is now they are going to fly in to Milwaukee for a game, then back to Storrs to play the same team a few days later, then fly out to Waco. Makes more sense to have a three game road trip: DePaul, Marquette, then down to Baylor since you're already in the middle of the country then back home. You could leave UConn on Thursday, play DePaul on Friday night, then Marquette Sunday afternoon, then Baylor the following Thursday night for a one week road trip.

I was just thinking that if one or two more games could be placed between Villanova and Baylor, the Baylor game would mean something versus Geno catching or passing Pat Summitt for 2nd place all-time for victories. And whoop, there it is....

As UCONN will win the four games ONE GAME AT A TIME, winning AT Baylor will put Geno and company in sole possession of second place to Tara VanDeveer at 1099 wins in two fewer years than Pat, and seven fewer years than Tara. THEN come home to face Providence on Saturday, 1/9/2021 to achieve the nice round number of 1100!!! Go HUSKIES!!!
