Few things:
1. This team really hasn't played all that well this season. Defense has really not been good considering the athleticism and length this team has. Guys have been getting beat off the dribble, not rotating properly, not fighting over the screens, and just relying on their pure athleticism to bail them out. Offenes was stagment at times, but Lamb and Shabazz would always bail them out. Today they both had bad games and the team lost. The sets are going to have to be run a lot better. Of course, it would have helped if Deandre had knocked down those two open threes.
2. In all six games this season, this team has let a vastly inferior opponent off the mat. They have not developed a killer instinct. Now, there is plenty of time to do that, but when you're up 20 and you take the foot off the gas pedal, you give the other team confidence. Suddenly, a team like UCF (who really isn't good) is playing like Duke because you've made them believe that they are better than they are. With guys like Oriakhi and Drummond, we have to take their will away.
3. You can't play in spurts. You know what you get when you have an extremely talented team who only plays with instensity half the time? You get the 2009-2010 crew. This team has yet to play a full game, or come close to it. That on/off switch is a very dangerous tool. It teaches you bad habits, and it doesn't teach you how to win. Last year Kemba made sure it didn't happen. To me, it all goes back to our co-captain Alex Oriakhi. He needs to bring it every game, and if he does, so will the team.
