Friend of Boneyard Doug Gottlieb says KenPom is BS...

Wow with something that egregious it seems like it would be very easy to find some specific game examples of teams gaming the system, yet you’re never able to do that.

And it’s been explained to you multiple times that you can’t look across years, so I’m certainly not going to explain it again since you don’t care.

7774: KenPom is a very accurate analytical tool and I will attack anyone who disagrees with me on this.

Also 7774: Ignore obvious factual inconsistencies that show that KenPom's, or any efficiency ratings, actual usefulness is very limited.

nelsonmuntz: someone asking me for an example is the same as attacking me.

I gave you THE example of how KenPom's model has all kinds of problems, and explained why any model that is so easily gamed by those it claims to measure has serious limitations.

How is the model being gamed and what are some examples of specific games where this was happening?

Kenpom isn't perfect, but it is the best predictive metric we have.

Aren't most spreads close to what KenPom says?
This is a great comment. Is Ken Pom a gambling guide or an authentic guide to evaluate the relative talent and execution of teams from all over the country? If you are not into gambling why is this of interest? Because it is influencing the NCAA and the media narrative about how good teams are relative to one and another based on metrics which as pointed out can be very subjective. I doubt anyone on the board would touch a 15 point spread for us over a McDermott team that has regularly beat us outright. We have not played nearly as well as our record/spreads have indicated as of late. It (Ken Pom) has become a tail that wags the dog. It is increasingly reminding me of what metrics did to baseball. It's no longer fun to watch. It tends to be boring. Info (statistical data) is important to a degree but it measures more the size of the dog in the fight than the size of the fight in the dog.

I like more objective analysis like mojo!
