Fourth down and a foot call in 4th quarter

4th and actually less than a foot call in fourth quarter to go and Disco goes for 42 yard field goal into the wind. I say you have to go for it there given the yardage and the kick being into the wind.

I didn't mind the call or the execution. Ball hit upright with plenty of leg and the kick missed by 6". Diaco knows Puyol has a 50 yard leg in no-wind conditions.

Or, the OLine told Diaco/Verducci they can't be counted on to drive the pile a foot after failing to do it earlier in the game.

Of late I'm of the mindset to take the points. He had plenty of leg on that kick unfortunately 6 inches to the right and doinked.

They should have kicked it in the 1st Q and run a sneak in the 4th. The first time was 1.5 yards. It wasn't going to work. The second time was .5 yds. Then to top it off we run out of time at the end of the half. Just stupid.

Yeah, I know they got stuffed the first time. The point is in game 7 try something else besides the sneak you've tried in the previous six games in that situation.

That was a horrible call considering the score and the wind. No excuses for it. If the O line is problematic in those situations, create a play to overcome it--a play action --unexpected-- pass. Or a quick hit by Max, who can push better than BS.

My bad. With no wind or wind at his back kicking FG there is right decision. Was wrong call then. Should have kicked it in 1st quarter at that end of field.

Wind at back you can kick there. But wind in face, down 8 in the 4th Q from inside their 30, I thought going for it was the higher percentage play. And it should have been a pass, play action or otherwise.

We spend a lot of time on the Boneyard criticizing 50-50 to 60-40 play calls. But I know the play you are referring to, and it may have been the stupidest call I've ever seen. Who is biting on a play fake on 3rd and 6?

Yep. 3rd and 6 was the play. Not the first time this year and every time Bryant turns to see an oncoming rusher that disrupts the play.

Those are the route of plays this staff needs to learn to eliminate from the playbook. Stupid is the only thing it can be called.

This started to bug me last game. By the time Bryant gets done with the fake and looks downfield a quick hitter for 7 yards is now covered. Today USF really snuffed out our passes to Arkeel in the flat and we kept trying to do it.

The problem with kicking that FG there was the way Shirreffs was able to move the ball himself leading up to that point of the game. On that drive and I believe the one before it, he was eating up massive chunks of yardage on his own. Why not let him continue when he only needed half a yard. No need to have him sneak it. Spread em out and have him run. Was working at that point of the game and instead, we kick into the wind. Even if he made it I would have disagreed with it. We needed to score a TD there. It was too late in the game for the "take the points" mentality.
