That's not a smart man. That's the type of guy who promises these kids a map to a road that most of them will never drive on.
A very smart, honest man would have told the "athlete" that he could have both. If he spent enough time in the library and the gym he'd be able to chase his dream and have an education to either fall back on or use to build his empire after he hung them up.

i agree that’s the way it should be. I can tell you out on The Grind the reality is the SEC schools get a $50 million annual TV check, so we are just kidding ourselves that college sports is like a 1950’s movie. Where’s the education to fall back on when you have UNC fake classes, Louisville strippers and L$U family payments? I am not advocating any of this - it’s just what we are competing against - so let’s have eyes wide open - and cut our guys a little slack in the classroom.
A smart and caring man would advise the athlete on the best path for that particular athlete. You seem to think that you know what is best for someone that you do not know at all.

Perhaps, but Jim would always tell the player what he thinks is in the players best interest.

The basketball court is the classroom for these kids. Some like Bill Gates only need one year of college to make it big, some like Lebron don't need any. Some get their PhDs and become barristas some go in the first round and end up in Europe.
Went to a game in early December - was fantastic. Would highly recommend for any UConn fan. We got there about 20 minutes early for a 3pm game and sat in the front row across from the Joes bench. Coach Calhoun coached the first half, then missed the first ~12 minutes of the second half (they were up big) before coming for the end of the game. IT was really great to see him coach again and to see it up close. They have a bunch of talent for that level too, Taleon is definitely a couple steps above athletically. Was great.

Highly improbable. How many kids transfer from D3 to D1? Maybe a handful a year. Duncan Robinson, from Williams to Michigan to the NBA, is probably the most notable.

For St Joe’s to be a top D3 program, one a year is all it will take along with a solid lineup at the other positions.
