Californian King left Lynyrd Skynyrd by choice. Sweet Home Alabama's co-writer, Ronnie Van Zant, died in the band's 1977 plane crash.

The recent HBO show seemed to point out RVZ was tough on him when he was cocked and eventually King couldn’t put up with it any more.

Guitarist Steve Gaines and backup singer Cassie Gaines also died in the crash along with their Asst Road Manager and both pilots.

Important to note it was the music only... not the lyrics that rebel flag waving yahoos love so much.

The man had a lot of health problems over the years, and his last few years didn't sound like much fun at all. Might've become a wealthy man if he was given the songwriting credit for I&P that he apparently deserved. Another example of how filthy the music industry was back in the day.

A ha, on a older plane Lynyrd Skynyrd members and their support team purportedly were uncomfortable with yet continued to use for travel. Cost savings?
