Lets assume at least in this one respect PP knows what he is doing. He's supposed to be super recruiter, and God knows he needs to recruit up to compensate for deficits in other aspects which have been shown to be thus far absymal.

I have to agree with whaler here. It looks like the kid is a player, and sometimes pplayers get missed, but when a kid is only recruited by FCS and D2 programs, most of the time he is an FCS/D2 level player. Often they are missing something. Do coaches sometimes get it wrong? Sure they do. But they rely on getting it right more times than wrong to keep their jobs. Roughly 120 D1A schools passed on the kid. I'm guessing that he isn't a D1A prospect. It isn't a knock. With luck he'll end up in a good place, have a great college career and get a degree and get to the NFL if that's his dream. Seems the Giants had some success with a kid from the Colonial. So did the Ravens. So it can be done.

The kid reminds me a little of Marcus Easley. We all know how the experts saw that coming.

Well stated. UConn is far better off going after kids that are being pursued by BCS programs.

Let's think about this. UConn had 1 WR spot open and got a commit from lemelle who had offers from Iowa, WVU, Penn St., BC, Rutgers, purdue, Syracuse, and others. Then there is Matos with no offers. Logic prevails. Which WR do you want to push aside to make a spot for Matos? You have to look at the WRs in the class as part of this discussion.

You are firmly on the side of the "experts" now, but we really don't need to be so locked in on position. He is 6'1", 200#, runs a 4.5, and he plays BOTH ways in HS. He could be a prospect at safety too.

I understand where all of you are coming from. However, I think many of you missed the point of my posts. I never said we should offer Matos over anyone else. I would have liked to see us take a chance on a kid like Matos. I, personally, think he has a huge upside and if you have a chance to get a versatile athlete with his size, and speed. He may not be better then the kids we've recruit, RIGHT KNOW, but he has the potential to be in two or three years. It's worth the risk, IF we have the scholarship available. Honestly, would you rather have a 5'11, 175, 4.5 WR or a 6'1, 200, 4.5 WR?

Unfortunately, he doesn't have the body of work that many of the other receivers UConn was after, nor other D1 schools were after. He converted to WR in 2011. He's still a relative unknown, therefore a lot of schools weren't on him. I like the kid. He's in our backyard, could help build depth, and will compete. In my opinion he's under the radar and has the talent and ability to develop into a special player in the right situation. He held an offer from Stony Brook, which he received after camping there over the summer. I believe CCSU was interested, unsure if the offered. I believe Iowa, expressed interest at one point. He considered going to Milford Academy, before accepting the offer from URI.

But like I stated earlier, maybe the did look at him, but he wasn't going to pass through UConn admissions. Who knows? Only time will tell what he becomes, but I like the prospects. He has the intangibles.
