With musical choices helping to fill the hot-stove hours between transfer discussions and might-have-been musings, and with the recent spate of "elderly" humor and references in the posts, I am suggesting a look at songs that observe, celebrate, or lament growing old. A chance for the many septuas and octos in particular to inform the more callow boneyarders of what lies ahead.

My choice, by a whisker over "It was a Very Good Year," sung by the great Maurice Chevalier:

As if this is old. More like 104.

Of Course, McCartney was 24 when he penned this (with help from Lennon) so at that time 64 seemed positively ancient. Now looking at 77(!) next month, 104 might work better for him today.

Of course they only got to 31 in the course of the lyrics. I remember listening to this as a kid and thinking 31 was way off in the future. Well past that now...

Maybe not about old age per se, but a interesting take on "Old Man River."
