Sales in '95 was a good one - her defensive ability and overall athleticism may have been the missing ingredient in that first championship season.Which former Husky had the best/greatest freshman campaign.
Which former Husky had the best/greatest freshman campaign.
Maybe it would be better to ask who had the 2nd best freshman campaign!
You got it rugby. No NC without her. What she did to ND in the tournament after they had our number for a while was nothing less than EPIC!!!!!!Stewie was the MOP for the Final Four and walked away with the championship.....for a team that generally devotes itself to winning NC's one might conclude she was at least the most successful freshman ever...just sayin"

Maya also was the first freshman in history to be the Big East Player of the Year. She finished 2nd--behind only Candace Parker--in the AP POY voting. Maya also shattered Rebecca Lobo's 16-year-old record of being named the Big East Freshman of the Week the most times. Rebecca won it 7 times. Maya won it 10 times. I proposed that the award be named after Maya.I'll arrange them in order of superiority.
Second freshman in history to be named to the Associated Press All-America First Team, USBWA All-America First Team. She was selected as USBWA National Freshman of the Year, also named as the unanimous choice for BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and was a 2008 All-BIG-EAST First Team choice.. She is the first freshman in UConn history to be named as an All-America selection. But wait there is Moore ...

That was when Breanna truly became Stewie, but our leading scorer in the NCAA tourney that year, with 112 points, was Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis (Stewie missed the Idaho game with an injury). At that, as you say, epic semi-final, after ND had beaten us three successive times that year, and seven out of the last eight, Stewie became Stewie. Her drive down the right side, flying hook shot, at full speed and elevation let the Irish know that their fourth win was gone, gone gone. McBride cried, Diggins stayed stoic, but Stewie ate them up, both ends of the floor. The video of Stewie's pre-game response to the previous losses was also epic as she turned away and grimaced, grunting her answer that told us, freshman or not, she was not going to tolerate another humiliation.

Stewie's Final Four accomplishments and team championship surpassed Maya's, but Maya was still playing injured against Stanford after the Rutgers mugging. Plus, Stewie's 0-point effort against Baylor in the depth of her slump was something that Maya never experienced.
