This game has the entire freshman class of Bird, Walter’s, Jones, Cash & Williams, rare footage of Kiersten Walters, whose career was extremely short due to injuries, Bird had not wrecked her knee yet, plus huge bonuses of Amy Duran, young Shea and Sveta, Kelly Schumacher, Paige Sauer, and Stacey Hansmeyer. The substitutions were constant. On YouTube.i. Also announcers were Meghan Pattyson and the Celtics Tom Gorman.

Is this the game where Swin scored for UCLA, and everyone laughed (except Shea) ?

Swin's basket for UCLA was in Gampel.

Do you remember the high school junior who attended
that game? Her decision ultimately came down to
UCLA or UConn.

Courtside was DianaTaurasi!...frosh year at UConn was
2000-2001.

Both teams did in fact score over 100 points.
Bet Dee was thrilled to see she wouldn't have
to play defense in college.

Thanks.

By the way, an unsegmented replay of the 1998 UCLA game and a zillion others is available at
uconnhuskygames.com, a great resource for those who want to wallow in nostalgia.

Here is a link to what I could find of it. Appears to be in eight segments. I’ve attached the first segment and you can follow from there.

Meg is so young there!

.-.
The 1998-99 team was an offensive powerhouse, holding the UConn record for most PPG in a season at 91.2.

Consider who came off the bench in this game:
  • Shea Ralph (1st team AA)
  • Asjha Jones (3rd team AA)
  • Tamika Williams (HM AA; NCAA career leader in FG%)
  • Kelly "Nine Blocks" Schumacher (NC 2000)
  • Stacy Hansmeyer (NC 2000)
  • Kiersten Walters
  • Marci Glenney

Auriemma was really impressed on the bench watching UConn's interior defense look a lot like this year's, passive. And it was nice to see Abrosimova again, she was smooth as a baby's butt.

hope that crew of refs have hung it up. they spoiled the game with stoppages and unnecessary foul calls.
