I was thinking about 18 school conferences the other day. I think 9-team divisions is problematic. You really have to play everyone in your division and that means with a 9-game conference schedule you play your other conference mates once every 8 years. If you go with a 3-division, 6 team model you play 5 games in your division and then you can either play 3 (play every team once in 4 years) or 4 (play every team once in 3 years) additional conference games depending on the 8 vs 9 game schedule. The problem with 3 divisions is finding 2 teams for your championship game. Optimally, you take the top 2 of the 3.
or you have 8 divisional games 2 cross-divisional games and 2 truly OOC game.

I didn't see these two coming. I was sure the next two would be from Nevada, Fresno, UNLV and New Mexico.

what about SEC

i had them doing this in the op, your talking to me right?
"sec+vt/ncst/fsu/gt/clem/tcu or bay"

the sec gets tv markets in va and nc. it also gets a 2nd texas school in another big market. then its would rather protect turf and fill in with quality then not fill in or have to later with worse teams so it adds fsu/gt/clem up the coast line. this allows the 2 10 team divisions to split east/west and keep most if not all rival games that matter thru division play and a cross game for 9 conf games a year.

thats not what this is about nelson. its the fact that we and a select few others have been talking about schools in general, potential and all this stuff for a while being laughed at, now its not so funny.

Adding Tulane and ECU (and losing BYU apparently) and assuming either UConn or Louisville or both are gone... Aresco is trying to save the contract negotiations. Losing rutgers here is big, UConn too. If not all the NNBE will be in place (i.e.boise) I think it's not hard to see the value going down, down, down... Question is, how far down?
