For games, "TJ Will Call Plays"

So the question should be - will TJW have full reign in determining play calling and game planning ? Will DeLeone change areas of focus in each week's practice to feed into that week's gameplan? Will the GDL-TJW relationship be GDL offering his perspective as a guy with many years in the game, and TJW taking that into consideration, or will it be GDL trying to impose his philosophy on the OL if TJW's gameplan uses a different philosophy? If that happens will we even know about what's going on? Maybe we shouldn't, loose lips sink ships and all that, but I hope WM will know all the details.

I want to hear that TJ controls the entire offense, not that he will be calling plays based on GDLs offense. This is not what I was hoping for.
I want to hear he's the new head coach...... Lol

I have a source that will tell us who's actually calling plays. Although I guess irrelevant as I don't think it's possible to call from the sideline like that but who knows. I'll post what I hear after Towson.

I think PP will let TJW run the show, but it's certainly fair for anyone to wonder if PP is going to pull the same gag this season with GDL like he did at Syracuse in 2004.

It's the teaching and execution that I'm hoping TJ upgrades, that and the enthusiasm of the whole unit. If JDL is calling plays there needs to be an intervention and it better come from Warde before it comes from us. We need to win and become more exciting ASAP! The trend line was not going in an upward direction the last two years and if TJ is undermined and allowed to be undermined then Warde's job should be on the line as well.

At the Alumni Association event tonight, the two words I kept hearing in regards to Weist (from both Coach P and the players) were: Energy and Tempo. That, and the players are very excited to play for Weist.

- While the playbook hasn't changed drastically, Weist has brought in his influence.

- The Wildcat was not emphasized heavily this spring.

- References to GDL were in regards to the O-Line ONLY.

If the line isn't in-sync with the game-plan each week all heck is going to break loose real fast. We're either going to sink or swim with this arrangement and it will show up early this year given the schedule. I'm going against the flow here but I predict that if needed Coach P will step in to straighten things out and not necessarily in the direction you might think.

Coach Weist will be in the booth making the calls and coach GDL will be on the field this year. With hearing that I am pretty sure coach Weist will be making the calls on offense

"Pretty sure"? That this has not been positivly confirmed is a negative. But I understand that we don't want to give anything away to Towson.

I would have said 100% sure but who the heck knows for sure. I don't think Coach Weist came here to be a decoy because this is his career and not just coach Pasqualoni's on the line

Job #1 for GDL is to get the O Line to execute the protections and the run blocking for the plays called by TJ Weist. End of story.

From the outside, it looked to me like UCONN, the Institution, took steps to avoid embarrassing GDL. That's a good thing.

Honestly, I would have given the OL back to Foley based solely on his past success. And, if you're going to tell me Foley can't teach or understand "sophisticated" schemes, you better be equipped with proof of GDL's Mensa membership.

GDL INVOLVED IN PLAY CALLING? Where did this concept come from? It's nuts! I hope!

If the Jewish Defense League "JDL" (not a "shot," just kidding) is calling the plays, we will be kick-ass. They are (or were) violently combative.

PP talking:

>>On DeLeone, the former OC and Weist, the current, working together: “T.J. uses George as a resource. George bounces stuff off of T.J. They just work great together. You never know how that’s going to work out but I promise you. It’s worked out unbelievably. I think it’s worked out as well as it could.

On Gameday… “T.J. is the play-caller and George will be in a very key role of doing what he does in coaching the offensive line, getting the blitzes and the protections down, what’s the problem in the run game and on and on and on and on – and you can’t have a better guy doing it. I mean you have a guy with a vision of exactly what it’s supposed to look like every play and those guys are hard to find. Some guys watch the game… it’s like Times Square on New Year’s Eve. George watches the game and it slows down. That’s a pretty special talent to have.”

DeLeone will be on the sidelines. Weist in the coaches box…<<

Yesss!!!

Didn't everyone give Deleone a ton for calling the plays from the box last year?

.-.
Haha yes, but I think that was because it took away from his ability to directly coach/correct the o-line during the game. Now he'll be on the sideline and can interact with the o-line directly after each play.

If we can get the blitz's and protections down that will be a big improvement. With a struggling O-line last year I was one who was frustrated that they were not getting feedback from their Coach on the sideline. Coach Foley did what he could but he had the tight ends as well. There could be a dramatic improvement in the offense this year, 28 days till kickoff!

I've noticed that. This year let's try we watch the game and the other team slows down.

No, he got a ton of for providing zero in-game coaching to the weakest area of the team. An area he high-handedly took over and made himself the coach. His play-calling was atrocious, the location of where the calls were made was never an issue.

Again, I'm still worried about whether GDL's style - even if his influence is truly limited to the OL - will mesh with the offensive playcalling - even it it's 100% TJ. I hope it does mesh but if the OL can't pick up the complex blocking schemes in year 3 of the new regime, with guys that GDL recruited, or GDL can't or won't simplify the schemes, then TJW will be hampered.

I'll be happy if we can control the line of scrimmage vs Towson! Hopefully no run up the gut 1st play either.
