There is no way to compare accurately. My son made this point to me. What I think we know for sure is our team from last year was way better than our team this year.

This years team almost beat the team that went on to win the chip in a game our best shooters Alex, Solo and Liam went 6 for 26 or 23% from three.

Like I said these are all guesses but using just our team what we all know best as a baseline it is an interesting take.

I thought the game was not aesthetically beautiful basketball. But there were some crazy level athletes on the court last night giving 110% and leaving it all on the court. The ending was perfect for how the game was played both teams fighting for a loose ball as the buzzer sounded. I found it entertaining for that reason, Houston plays so hard and they are so physical but in the end their lack of offense did them in.

If Danny did not learn from his mistakes and stop focusing just on defense when constructing his rosters we may have ended up being like Houston while he is the coach. That first round loss to NM changed everything.

Samson does an amazing job finding this long armed 6’9” athlete to anchor down the defense and be effective at switches. He had three of them last night between Tuggler, Roberts and Francis. These guys can guard guards and are all over the floor. This is what makes Duke so lethal with Flagg.

This is the concern with a front court of Reed and AK. AK is such a limited defender that unless you have a great rim protector or are awesome defensively elsewhere, he is a limited switcher because he can’t cover anyone with quickness.
 
The way Houston beat Duke and the way Florida beat Houston is telling.

In today's game the aggressor is rewarded. Until it isn't.

Houston aggression all season helped them rise to the F4. It only took 2 minutes of passive play, to cost them.

BTW, UConn had similar "difficulties" in-bounding the ball. This must become a Dan Hurley priority for next year.

If you need him to party, I offer condolences. Your commitment to humor first is clear.

My speed bump doesn't need to have slowed anybody's roll except the guy who has commented on Chris Beard, the Duke Lacrosse team, a predatory school coach in his hometown, and with conflicting angles in this & other NC threads on both Todd Golden & Kelvin Sampson, the latter on non-sexual matters. You could look it all up; he already knows, or at least can't be surprised by gentle reminders.

I never want to hear another word about this season having great teams and I never want to hear another word about UConn-Butler. That game was a masterpiece painted by God himself compared to the absolute dumpster fire we saw tonight.

Hey, I liked the Butler game, with UConn not letting the other team score. We'd already seen 10 better looking ways to win a game.
 
Just about every coach in CBB needs remedials on end of half/end of game plays. The plays take too long to develop and there’s no time for a second chance. And a team like Houston not going inside with their offensive rebounding is inconceivable.

Awful is one word for it.....pathetic and weak are others. Fishy has lost quite a bit off the ole fastball saying that game was worse than UConn/Butler. 2011 was the worst championship game since they replaced the peach baskets with nets. Guess some people just can't see past their UConn goggles.

As mentioned previously here, I stopped watching the NCAA Tournament once UConn lost. I thought Houston was the better team and thought the winner of Duke vs Houston was winning it all. I checked the game score on-line and saw Houston up 12 pts. and then went to bed. I expected them to win easily and was shocked that they lost.

Not taking anything away from UF. They deserved the title. They showed tons of resilience and they beat good teams one after the other. And they won me some money.

So believe me that I'm not hating when I ask this: Where would you rank them in terms of champions in the modern era? Can you name 3 champions that they'd likely beat in a 7-game series? I don't think they're as good as any of UConn's title teams.

I have no idea, but I picked them prior to the tournament, they were a deserving 1 seed who won the SEC title (best league in the country this year) and they won the title by beating many good teams. They were one of, if not the best overall team much of the year.

So pitting them against other years, I don’t know. I know they were objectively not a weak champion.
 
Did our coaches send in that final play to Kelvin Samson? It looked mighty familiar in it's result.

Maybe it's semantics but if they're the weakest champion in the last 25 years, that's a weak champion.

I took picked them as I thought they were the best of the bunch and I thought Clayton had the "it" factor. But I think it was a weak bunch. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

It wasn't good. Nor was it as bad as our win over Butler, which team fandom aside, was horrific basketball.

What makes you say they’re weak amongst the last 25 champions? Didn’t they have a top 10 kenpom all time? They lost like 4 games all year. Why do you think they’re so weak historically?

I’ve heard talk the last 3 weeks at least about how historically great the competition and teams were this Final Four, and Florida was the best of them. I hadn’t heard many opinions about how weak this year was, so I’m very confused.

People are ignorant of good defense. They were sucked into a rock fight by a team that loves a good rock fight, and won at their game. Florida is not one of the weakest NC teams. They would have smoked our 2014 team. 36.5 KP to 22. Can't wait for the tongue bathing tribals to come at me there. A team looks better or worse relative to the field, and this years field was excellent.
 


I guess not having Duke in the Final didn’t hurt the ratings.

Just my opinion that they're among the weaker champs. I asked you who you thought they were better than. RuffRuff says 2014 UConn.

I think there are two problems with relying on stats. First, it's dependent on the field. Second, a team's season rating doesn't tell the whole story. UConn in March-April 2014 was different from UConn in January 2014. And we know UConn in March-April was totally different from UConn in January 2011. They couldn't win a game, and then they couldn't lose a game.

I really don’t understand this narrative at all. They are not a weak team by any stretch and they dominated in a very strong conference. Really don’t get the slings and arrows…..and for the record, I am NO Florida fan
