We talk about our flaws all the time but nobody is playing perfect basketball.

Watching that Vandy/Texas game last night didnt exactly make me want to lay money on the Commies in the tourney. Their schedule hasnt been challenging. Also, how good is the SEC?

Iowa state showed some rare defensive lapses in the Kansas game- is there enough offense there to carry them through the conference?

Where do the weaknesses lie among the top ten teams?

Uconn obviously has a very high ceiling bc of its defense and offense potential.

The top 6 or 7 teams are not that far apart. Bring your C game to the tournament and you are done. It all comes down to who gets hot in March.

Watching Vanderbilt last night they play a lot like Alabama. Very reliant on their 3 point shot and rim attack.

Vandy = not playing at home. Same for Kansas. SEC is not as good as last year and will not get 14 teams in. B12 is better and B10 pretty good too.

Vandy was outrebounded by Texas 40-20, they really don't have a front line. They are not a threat. Their best win was at home against another team that cannot rebound in Bama. Let's see how they do against UF.

UF still strikes me as the best team in the SEC, if their guards can be mid.

The top 7 teams are pretty clear:

Arizona
Uconn
Iowa St
Michigan
Houston
Purdue
Duke
BYU

Each one has a flaw.
 
Michigan, I don't think their guards are all that good and guards really matter in the tournament. I still see them as a national championship contender.

BYU, they are currently ranked #11 I see them as a serious title contender and one of the best teams in the country. Best threesome in the country in Dybantsa, Saunders, and Wright but they have to always be on or two of them have to always be on because the team lacks top quality after them.

Duke, Cam Boozer is awesome and Isaiah Evans is really good but I don't think much of the rest of the team. I don't see them as national championship contenders.

Also like BYU. Their issue is after those 3 and their center, their roster gets really light and lacks depth.

Houston is also a team to watch out for. They have as much balance in their starting 5 as anyone. Key for them will be whether they can find that defensive edge they always have, and if Cenac develops more.

Those top 4 in the Big12 are buzz saws.

Also find Duke too flawed in the backcourt. The Khamenia kid has been a dissapointment and Sarr isn't all that good offensively.

Yep. I quoted him with no reference. I was thinking after the hall game that with all of the critique of this Husky team I have seen issues with many of the best teams in the country. We always seem to act as if everybody has their act together, but we don't.

There are no perfect teams this year. This is not last year, where any of those Final 4 teams would be the best team this year. I thought Michigan could play up, but they have some chinks in the armor, SJ mentioned one above. While big, FC is a tad soft.

Not that I put TOO much stake in KenPom but Houston is right near us in offense rtg in the 20's.

Also funny how nobody mentions Nebraska at all. They could go undefeated until the Michigan game in a week or so.
That game will tell us a ton about both teams. In Ann Arbor though...

The pieces on Houston are still coming together and they lean on two freshmen. Samson, like Hurley, will let that team evolve and peak when it matters. Their KP is very similar to us.

Not buying Nebraska. Well coached, but not enough horses.

Don’t buy the zags as a real contender. Those do not lose by 40 and go to OT with Seattle.

Sorry - I didn’t include the Huskies in that number. 8 it is.
 
Conversely, the top teams are not necessarily flawed, but the teams they (we) are playing are pretty talented, have tremendous athletes and are coached very well. Everyone seems to have a guy Reed's size, a speedy guard and bulky PFs. But, the top teams have the shooters and the elite coaching.

It'll be interesting to see if it lands that way. I also wonder if the committee would try to split it teams in the same conference. Perhaps flip Iowa St to the Midwest, Purdue to the South. We shall see.

3 or 4 of these teams wont make the elite 8. Any of these teams can beat each other if they don't bring it. The nature if the tournament.
