I remember hearing that he had a terrible fall at the plate. Could barely make contact and didn't have a hit during the scrimmages. I fear that this may have carried over into the spring.
It's surprising to me; I played against Olmstead a lot last year during HS and Legion, and he always hit the crap out of the ball. Even hit a homer against us over the 368 sign at GHS. However, I do remember during Legion we handled him well with a heavy amount of breaking balls. If he was susceptible to D-II and D-III breaking balls (where our two best pitchers went to college), then he may be utterly lost against the high D-I curveball. I say give him some time. He always hustled hard so I'm assuming he's a hard worker, so he'll be able to figure it out. I have faith in him, because he was one of the best players I ever played against.
