First Practice Video with the newbies

The powers that have stripped me of the ability to give likes or other things. But I like your reply very much, I agree that Geno and Chris will work their magic, and Azzi will gain her voice. It may be that the strong personality that was Paige stifled Azzi to a point. It will be fun and interesting to see how things turn out.
Don't feel bad Moose. Without any communication from the "Yard powers" I have been stripped of having any of my posts, no matter how positive, be either liked or replied to.
It would be nice if Nan or other Yard honchos would provide her, or their rationale.

Great response, Rsher
Umm, kinda missed my point. Yes, I know why they have male practice players. But this was just a scrimmage, and they have up to 15 players on the roster. I know I would hate to stand on the sidelines, watching someone who wasn't even on the team take my playing time. That was my point.

So does having a sense of humor disqualify a player from being a leader? Azzi has been around for three years and has not shown any inclination of stepping up to be a leader and Sarah is virtually silent most of the time. I think too many people underestimate KK but time will tell.
Agree. I also think having a "big" personality makes it easier to be a leader. That said, my guess is that she's a year away from being "the leader" a role she will likely share with Ashlynn.

UConn practices are well known for being fast paced and well scripted. I strongly doubt that there's much standing around in them.

There’s a lot of ways to lead a team, not all of which require a player to be outgoing and publicly vocal. Pheesa was a great leader at UConn who was certainly no match for her BFF, Lou when it came to voicing her opinion publicly. It is no accident that Pheesa has gone on to be the VP of the WNBA players association while also being one of the cofounders, along with Stewie, of Unrivaled.

KK will undoubtedly be one of the leaders of next year’s team. But I also think Azzi, Caroline and Sarah will step up as leaders, along with Jana, Ashlynn and possibly Serah & Hayleigh as well. You can never have too many leaders on one team.

But the practice players also have to learn the new players and existing players if they are new. They have to learn the players tendencies as well as strengths/weaknesses so they can counter and make things more difficult. They are a vital part of the bigger "team" that is the UConn machine.

Also, Ziebell appears to be wearing facial protection of some sort.
I was just reviewing these slides and noticed that also. And it reminds me that unfortunately, injuries are part of sports. Just hoping Allie can effectively heal from whatever happened.

PS: I’m sheepishly hoping that no injury occurred, and the mask is a new “fashion statement” for her.

No, having a sense of humor is not the same as being a jokester or a cut up. What I wrote was done with no disrespect to KK, just stating what I have observed from 40 years of coaching serious athletes and teams. We should probably keep in mind that there are different kinds of leaders, vocal leaders, those who lead by example as well as others. I feel many would follow KK on a team prank, a dance or another video but not as a team floor leader.
We have a difference of opinion, as I see it nothing more. I agree with you to a point about Azzi and Sarah, I just see more leadership qualities in either of them than I see in KK. I also see a leadership role in the future for Morgan, if she wants it.

Kk may be an effervescent jokerster off the court but she's an game/ pace changing shark on defense. So whts wrong with loosing up with a couple videos and interviews in between games as long as she's all business on the court, after all ...they're in college
Nothing wrong at all, it's just that what you said is not on point with the premise that KK will not be the team leader next season. Just being business on the court and playing shark defense doesn't qualify anyone as team leader. While I think KK will have a large roll next season I don't think she will emerge as the team floor leader.

So she's getting the Nika treatment huh?w

Well...Paige did a lot videos and so did Azzi so I guess tht disqualified them from the team leadership position, I guess there should be a limited number of videos tht you can post b4 ur disqualified idk. And have you ever some of Genos jokes and jabs? They're hilarious, so maybe he should disqualified from the head coaching position. In closing I thk tht having fun at college won't disqualify KK from the team leadership esp if she keeps breaking ankles, being a gnat and collecting assists....better than staying out after curfew and or collecting DUIs. The good news is in 2 more years...she'll be " Off ur Lawn" but I believe Kelis brings tht same energy to the team.....OH BOY!!

Again I will say having a sense of humor doesn't disqualify a player from being a team leader. Bottom line I just don't think KK has the attributes to be the team leader. Twist it any way you want, but I can't be any clearer. KK is a very good player who may lead in certain categories, I just don't envision her as the ultimate team leader.

Ok...everyone's entitled to their own opinions no matter how silly or irrelevant they may be, thts wht makes the BY such a great place to debate...and not argue. Have a good day!

Aluminny69- - - Men perform at a faster, more aggressive rate of speed that women usually do so the girls have to perform faster and more aggressive to keep up with the men!
Somewhere, I believe I read that Geno sometimes has his players drill against a team of 6. Or maybe 4 against a team of 5.

I think the upcoming leaders with be KK and Ash. They started last year and played great roles coming of the bench this year. The next two years should be theirs. Also, they have the grit to be leaders. Their leadership will be based on solid accomplishment. They are fearless.....
