Notice that Stanford sponsors more sports than just about any other school. If you want to know why they keep winning this, there's your answer. Consider: Stanford places 2nd in women's water polo (34 teams sponsor it) and gets 90 points. Mississippi State places 2nd in women's BB (350 sponsor it) and gets...90 points.

East Carolina tied for 285th (and last) place with 5 points. Some people thought they would be a great addition to a P5 league.

We just had to have their BASEBALL team. It makes or breaks the conference.

These aren’t the final standings. Baseball is still being played.

Maybe they should award points based how many teams play. Maybe, from your example: Stanford gets 34 points and Miss State gets 350.

Some people (not here) thought the same about Rutgers (last in the B1G at #103 with next-to-last Indiana at #52).

More reason to add men’s lacrosse to UConn athletics.

Hey... I’ll attend a UConn women’s water polo... heck we have an indoor ring for polo/equine as well. We can add that for t9 supplement

Hey I'll go and watch any UConn team, although that position may be tested when field hockey plays at Rutgers later this summer.

Not for nothing, but Field Hockey is about the worst spectator sport in the world.... or at least it's not for me. My daughter played for a few years and it was interminable. Thank god she stopped and now just plays Ice Hockey. :-D

Big money is usually expended fielding football. basketball, and, maybe, baseball teams...

The great thing about the Director's Cup is that lower investment sports like M Golf, W golf, M Tennis, W Tennis, M lacrosse, W lacrosse, W water polo, Beach Volleyball count for as many points for relative success as do the expensive sports.

Only 19 sports are counted for the final standings but four are mandatory...Men's basketball, Women's basketball, baseball, and volleyball. The next highest 15 (max.) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender, will be used in the standings.

If you pick up points by being good in the non revenue sports, you can be fairly competitive in the rankings.

Thus Beach Volleyball helped push FSU into a top 10 finish while there were no points for football.

As long as we remain ahead of Rutgers I feel like UConn can continue to rub dirt into the open wound of the BIG for selecting Rutgers over them.

The B1G is very happy with Rutgers and its millions of cable subscribers. The above rankings are meaningless. There is, unfortunately, no open wound with the B1G or Rutgers. There is an open wound here at UConn.

I seem to have said one thing in my mind and typed another...coffee still hasn't gotten into my head.

Indeed the open wound is with us and rubbing dirt into it comes on our part. However, I am still one (unbiased of course...lol) that feels the BIG made a mistake in taking Rutgers over us.
