When I say aggressive I meant strictly vocally. He’s more than aggressive enough physically if not too aggressive at times like you said in help or on the close outs.I’ve said all along, I don’t have to squint hard to see him becoming a defensive stopper. I do find it interesting to see your view is that he needs to be more aggressive on defense. I’d say almost the exact opposite. To me his biggest issue is that he mixes in good defensive possessions with giving some absolute wide open looks to his man. The common theme I see is over-aggressiveness. He tends to bite on pump fakes, gets off balance pressuring the ball-handler, or over helps off-ball. I loved seeing the second half against BC because he seemed to play much more composed on the defensive end. He’s long, athletic, and has some good defensive instincts, and doesn’t need to do as much as he has historically to be a disruptive defender.
The next thing is being more aggressive vocally to make sure his teammates are on the same page. Seeing as that’s his ticket on the floor he should own that end of the floor and be a leader in helping his teammates and take command. Also holding them accountable if they miss an assignment.
There were too many times he did his part and someone missed an assignment and he was okay with it or didn’t say anything. He knows the defense. Time to start being accountable to make sure everyone else is doing what they should too and bring them along.
