With several WNBA and a couple of former UConn players suited up for various countries here's a thread to keep up with the games which started today. Bria Hartley is playing for France and Kiah Stokes is playing for Turkey. Also, Karlie Samuelson is playing for Great Britain.

Sweden defeated Montenegro 67-51
Amand Zahui B led Sweden with 21 pts. Glory Johnson led Montenegro with 15 pts.

France defeated Czech Republic 74-61
Bria Hartley scored 13 for France. Go Bria!

Great Britain and Karlie Samuelson play Latvia soon.

My new favorite European team -- Belgium -- plays Russia later as well.

We both loved Belgium in Tenerife last fall! I liked the announcer calling a 3-pointer by Julie "Vanlooooooo."

Belgium played very good offensive ball, with great movement and unselfish passing. No one-on-one. They also played with great enthusiasm. The crowd--including us--loved them.
Thanks. Gives me something look forward to. BTW Musina and Vadevva on the Russian team would have still been UCONN uniforms if my wishes had come through.

Turkey fell to Italy 57-54. Kiah Stokes led Turkey in minutes (35) and had a line of 10/8/3/2.

Lynx player Zandalasini scored 13 for Italy.
Was this an elimination game? Does it mean that Kiah will now be coming home to the Liberty?

Day 3 Recap:

Kiah had 11 points in her last game as Turkey was already eliminated, but did win.

Bria had 13 points in France's win, which gave them a bye to the quarterfinals. They can move on to Olympic qualifying with a win over the winner of Belgium-Slovenia. If they lose that game, they must win the next game.

Because they were so much fun to watch at the World Cup last year. The players, the way they played, the fan support they had in Tenerife.
were they speaking French or Flemish? Nice posting. Thanks.

Note that EVERY player from the Czech Republic has a surname that ends in “ova.”
