This upcoming tournament for USA Basketball is in the news today because USA Basketball announced that Adia Barnes will join Dawn's staff. Because of the timing, WNBA coaches (Reeve and Hughes) and players will not be available.

From the article

The USA team that will compete in the AmeriCup will be comprised of current collegiate athletes, and invitees to attend the April 18-21 team trials, held at the University of South Carolina, will be announced at a later date.

Again, no WNBA players. Perhaps Paige has been invited? Christyn? Olivia made the team that played in the 2019 AmeriCup which was in September and had some WNBA players.

Trials start a week from Sunday so we should expect participants to be announced soon.

I bet Aaliyah plays for Team Canada.

The AmeriCup is one of the initial qualifying events for the 2022 World Cup in Australia. The host country and Olympic Gold Medalist are automatic qualifiers but still must participate in the qualifying tournaments per FIBA's new rules.

Twenty collegiate players have accepted invitations to attend trials for the AmeriCup. No UConn players accepted (most certainly 2-3 were invited).

No Paige?

It's sad that the two players people most want to see, Paige and Caitlin, won't be there for this great tournament.

Does anyone know why they decline? Is it schedule conflicts? I'm really surprised Paige, Christyn, and Caitlin weren't on the list
No one knows for certain if they extended an invitation or if they decline. We are just assuming. If they decline it could be for a number of reasons. Primarily among the reasons I would think would be to get some rest. These players have been locked away from their families since summer of 2020 for the most part.

Paige will be in the weight room with Azzi supervising

I'm guessing anyone eligible for the WNBA draft can't go, since they don't know what their status will be.

Rumor has it that Caitlin was extended an invite to U19 not sure the deal with Paige.

The only name that I see on here and know to be WNBA eligible in Jenna Stati from Georgia. I don't think she would be on the list if she were going to the W.

And she's said she's going back to Georgia for the extra year of eligibility.

Suspect there is some interference with summer school schedules as well, and there may be a desire to be working with the college teams for a lot of especially the younger players.

That could definitely be true. I was also thinking they might not want to risk injury?

Aren't the players back for Summer classes in June?

Sorry @UcMiami didn't see your post before I asked about Summer classes.
