OT: FIBA 3X3 Women's Basketball USA vs Canada, June 25,2002

Cierra Burdick joined Lauren Cox, Linnae Harper, and Breanna Richardson in Rizzotti's crew in Bucharest. They won both group stage games today over the Czech Republic and a German club team with two native players and two Japanese players to qualify for the knockout stage.

The 3x3 tournament that got some unexpected attention was definitely the one in Konya, Turkey at the Islamic Solidarity Games. Tiffany Hayes and Azerbaijian edged the hosts and then won easily against Kyrgyzstan so they move on to the quarterfinals to defend their crown.

There had been questions about how much she could play because of the lingering injury from the WNBA season, but they posted action shots of her in the championship game so she did her part to win.
 
Rizzotti is overseeing the team in Quebec consisting of Joanne Allen-Taylor, Cierra Burdick, Lauren Cox, and Breanna Richardson. In pool play, they had a narrow win over Spain and a bigger win over the Czech Republic, but lost to Plouffe-less Canada. That means they need three wins instead of two on Saturday to win a championship.

With her WNBA season over, Emily Engstler was available to join Joanne Allen-Taylor, Linnae Harper, and Breanna Richardson in Montreal:

They won their pool play games against Lithuania and a rather hastily assembled group under the banner of Toronto without any big names so the real tests start Saturday.
 
The United States defeated Germany in the last group stage game, but the biggest threats were in the group as they lost to France in the semifinals. Canada ended up winning the final.

This will be an interesting team to watch. Became a fan of Burton when she played at Northwestern and was impressed with how she played this season. Not familiar with Zimmerman, but with 3x3 there are a lot of great players who may not have been household names when they played NCAA.
