Canada takes down the USA women 14 -10! No Gold, No Silver, No Bronze!
This game was in the Quarterfinals yesterday in Europe. Canada then breezed
though the Semi and the Finals. The Canadians were ranked 13? but had
a senior / veteran team whose youngest member was 25 yoa. The United
States team consisted of Hailey Van Lith, Ashley Joens, Cierra Burdick, and
Lauren Cox. Team Canada had twin sisters Michelle and Katherine
Plouffe, both 6' 3", and a Ms. Crozon and a Ms. Bosch. The USA team
even struggled in the preliminaries, never closing out a game at "21".
It seemed to be lack of firepower or just a poor shooting weekend.
The last FIBA 3X3 that I viewed had the USA winning the Gold with
M. Williams, Kiki Rice, Janiah Barker, and a fourth lady that I
cannot recall. I believe that the USA coach is Kara Lawson.
Well, on to next time, I guess. The games are available on
YouTube for Replay / reviewing for those BY who may be interested. Z

Thx for the link and info. I had no idea. In a way, not surprising as 2 of the older players, Burdick and Cox, aren't even good enough to be in the WNBA at this time. Joens is going to be a 5th year senior in college and Van Lith is going to be a junior in college.

At the time the team was announced, I was shocked. But I do understand that the 3x3 was taking place now and it's not like you could have just taken WNBA players and had them leave their teams. Just bad timing for the competition given the available pool for Team USA.

I don't think the USA takes FIBA 3x3 all that seriously so they still win when they have overwhelming physical talent but otherwise not so much........

I agree with @EricLA. When the 3x3 was announced, I was shocked. Just an interesting blend of players and talents. I feel like it was a timing thing. On my end, I am not sure of the overall process of how they put the team together. In the end, it was just an interesting squad that played hard out there and gave everything they had.

Not sure, if you’re kidding, but Ayanna Patterson was on that squad. I would have taken them over the current team. That mix was weird from Jump Street.

Team USA missed A LOT of shots. Many open and semi open shots
would " just not fall". I, myself would be interested in
the % of the Field Goals and the % from beyond the arc. When
Canada kept it close and pulled ahead the USA ladies seemed to
be less efficient. Of course the pressure of losing strikes at the heart
of many teams. Canada was the better team. ( but they did lose one
game in the Preliminary round. The USA was 3 - 0.) So, if the Canadians
had gone 3-0 they would have been on the opposite side of the bracket
in the second round of games and ( perhaps ) would not have met up
with the USA until the Finals. ( Maybe!!)
Yes, I know that YANNA was the fourth player on Kiki Rice, M. WIlliams,
and Janiah Barker team. Yanna's team shot better, blocked more shots,
and was just more intimidating. The current team was " suspect" in
the preliminaries ( if Hailey was not hitting ). A number of BY observers
noted this and some Boneyarders
anticipated this outcome. I wish the USA had a different foe in the
quarterfinals. With a few more games of working together a final
vs Canada might have had a different outcome. Maybe not.

Thanks for the link to the stats. As I suspected USA hit 35 % of their field goals , Canada 50 %
from "3 point land " ( for 2 points ) USA hit 9 % and Canada 21 %, and perhaps an additional big
killer was rebounding : USA 16 rebounds, Canada 21, USA was seeded # 7 Canada # 13
( there is a rather complex and not very rational (IMO) method to the seeding to the 3X3 FIBA
competitions). These games are fascinating, but more enjoyable when the " home" team wins!!

The difference between Canada and the US is that Canada has played together for ever and could really make nice leading passes. IMO, Joens and Cox did not give what the team needed and seemed a step slow.

Watching the games, IMO Van Lith was working very hard to compensate for
something that was missing. When Van Lith was not draining her shots (both
short and long) the writing was on the wall. Ms. Van Lith had one good shooting
game where she bailed out the USA team (unfortunately not against Canada).
Check the stats for all the USA games - to my
eyes each USA player had one (?) good shooting game.
To your point: I agree TEAM CANADA has had a long record of playing together.
Not to mention that the two 6'3" Canadian players were TWIN SISTERS! Now that is
a long time, B-Ball in the womb???
Next up: GlobLJam U 23 Canadian games with A. Edwards starting
on July 5th. Then USA at the U 17 FIBA tournament = many stars
will shine during those games! A good warm up for the UCONN WBB season!

Regarding the previous USA squad that won 3x3, wasn't it the U18 category?

I believe the current USA squad was based on previous participants, like Van Lith and players who were part of that 3x3 tournament that USA basketball held recently. I recall seeing coaches like Lawson on hand watching all the teams compete. I assumed it was a selection committee.

For the women's FIBA World Cup, it was the U18 with Ayanna on the team.

I, for one, am happy that Ayanna was working out at Storrs with thne rest of the Huskies that were available for individual and group activities.

Can never have enough team building moments after the difficult year that shall be left in the past (as much as is possible...)

I believe the player was Ayanna Patterson. So, it had to be a joke, or a small brain fart.
Yes, Ms. Patterson was an intimidating force for Team USA: Defensive rebounds, Blocks,
and overall defense ( some points in there , also!!) Z

I was checking up on the Canada National Team web page for the GlobLJam info (i.e. Aaliyah
Edwards, etc) and under " NEWS" learned that the Canadian team actually came in second,
winning the silver metals. France beat them in the final: 16 -13. Also, notable that the
USA men's team also lost in the quarterfinals to Lithuania. Antwerp was not good for the
USA! The Canadian Women did beat the # 1 seed Germany

This was an odd mixture of a team. VanLith, Cox, and Joens are a strong set but Burdick was the surprise to me. I think they needed something more in that role.
Burdick had the most 3x3 experience of anyone as she has been playing in the European offseasons between occasional WNBA stints.

She joined a group coached by Rizzotti in the first Women's Series stop that the United States has fielded a team in so far and they lost to Germany in the final in Poitiers:
