February UConn in the Pros

Mahaney was and is a ball-dominant lead/combo guard whose entire game is based off of driving to the basket to either finish or find cutters/shooters. There was no spot in our offense for that, and he couldn't create against bigger, faster defenders. Not surprised that he can be effective in a different environment, but he was the definition of a square peg in a round hole here.
At Saint Mary's he was definitely a shooting guard. But even there it was drive or 3 and yes, he was and is now facing lighter opponents than in the Big East.

I love how when you try to pronounce "Medzik Dzonson" you say, oh yeah, I see how they got that
Straight up "J" is always pronounced like in Jokic, with "dz" filling in for the other "J" pronounciation. Also, no hard "c" in Serbian so always a "K". Almost like spelling "Drew" as "Jrue".
The difference in his conditioning level between Season 1 and Season 2 has been impressive. Staying on the floor for longer durations and clearly highly efficient in the minutes he has. Just taking care of business. Once Damian Lillard gets back next year - Their PnR action is going to be unstoppable.
PnR is going to look a lot better with Scoot finally back. They had it going on the end of last year and it was one thing folks were looking forward to before Scoot got injured. For whatever reason, that isn't Jrue's game.

.-.
Didn't someone just declare that he isn't blocking shots anymore? 🤣
I do think he's not as a aggressive when Timelord is a DNP by design. He can't afford to get into foul trouble. His replacement is what Barkley calls a KP.

.-.
Cam and Knueppel on the same time is too much seriousness for 1 all star game
Loved seeing Cam talking with Tracy McGrady. It looked like he was picking his mind because Cam said thank you and Mac said anytime. I thought Cam showed great in this game. The game slows down for him so much and he is always in the right place. One of my favorite UConn players, wish we had him for more than one season.

Cam always working to improve. It must drive him nuts to have teammates not play full out in these type of games.
