February UConn in the Pros

that's dope that he's playing well but the Big West Conference isn't the "pros".
No it isn't and I understand your sentiment as their games are only on ESPN Plus. I think this way, too, about some of the smaller conferences, but I am scared of the Basketball Gods and offending them. Over the many past years when I watched the first week of conference tournaments for the smaller conferences I would, like a snob, look down upon at them, their teams, and the rinky dink gyms they played in even if the games entertained me. I would do this only to find their conference champion 10 days later giving a top team in the major conference a tough time in the first round of the NCAAT.

In 2021, the year Creighton triple crowned UConn with James Bouknight, guess who Creighton played and narrowly escaped with a 1 pt win because the opposing team missed a 4 foot bunny? UC Santa Barbara.

Castle update: x rays negative, has a pelvic contusion, and he came down hard on his tailbone. Not sure how much time he might miss, but that team is built to survive injuries.
I had a 6 inch vertical back in the day, got low bridged and fell straight on my tailbone. I thought I was paralyzed for a second. Then the pain set in. I still hate to think about it. Falling from his height, I glad he's going to be OK.

I have watched the last 10 minutes of game time of 3 of Santa Barbara's games on ESPN Plus. He is definitely the leader of that team even though the scoring is for the most part evenly distributed among the starters. Aidan plays more combo guard than a true PG even though he is 2nd on the team in assists.

Coincidentally enough, they played and got swept by UC Davis, which is a 2 mile walk from my brother in law. I am hoping UC Santa Barbara wins the Big West Tournament and makes the NCAAT and is no where near the bracket of any Big East teams.
Being asked to run an offense and being responsible for making other players around you better is a lot different than being asked to score as much as you can and make plays that open up while doing so.

Very normal for a 21 year old handling full time PG duties for the first time professionally.

You should see Cade Cunningham’s turnover #s
I mean, he turns it over too much. Many of them are unforced. I’m not talking about Cade, this is about Steph.

It’s not something to point out and complain about every game.

Some of the best PGs in the NBA as vets turn the ball over and a lot. Let alone when they were 21. It’s largely a non-issue because it’s so common.

I watch them almost every game. I point out what I am watching. It’s a thread about UConn players in the league. I also point out when he plays outstanding defense and makes great plays on offense.

I know this is OT but I thought some NBA heads might find it as funny as I did:

(Translation; Instagram suggested a post to me from a Serbian page about Jokic being the second player with the most triple-doubles in NBA history, and they "translate" all the American names and this might be the most incredible image I've ever seen. LEBRON DZEJMS)

I love how when you try to pronounce "Medzik Dzonson" you say, oh yeah, I see how they got that

Took me a bit to figure out who Medzik Dzonson was

It appears to just be phonetically how a Serbian would say it haha

Nice game going for Clingan with 17-13-5 as he sits with 6 minutes left in the third.

A bit unlucky he doesn’t have more. Made a 3 just after the shot clock buzzer, had another bucket waved off, and he had a block/rebound on Filipowski waved off when they retroactively whistled Filipowski for an offensive foul on someone else.

Edit: Now at 19-16-6 through 3. Triple double possible if he really tries to pass in the fourth. But 20-20 is certainly in play. Blazers up 15 so may depend if turns into a blowout.

Mahaney was and is a ball-dominant lead/combo guard whose entire game is based off of driving to the basket to either finish or find cutters/shooters. There was no spot in our offense for that, and he couldn't create against bigger, faster defenders. Not surprised that he can be effective in a different environment, but he was the definition of a square peg in a round hole here.

Ends 23-18-7 (no turnovers, 3 blocks).

Frustrating fourth - nobody missed shots while he was out there to get a couple more rebounds … and his teammates didn’t find him on rolls a lot. Had a nice pass into the deep post for what would have been a layup and assist No. 8, but his teammate was grabbed to prevent the shot.

Jazz didn’t really have a big man healthy (Filipowski was their best option). So Clingan was able to feast a bit.

He's one of the best centers in the association.

Finished with 23 points, 18 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 blocks.

The difference in his conditioning level between Season 1 and Season 2 has been impressive. Staying on the floor for longer durations and clearly highly efficient in the minutes he has. Just taking care of business. Once Damian Lillard gets back next year - Their PnR action is going to be unstoppable.
