Correct. We know Caleb Wilson and AJ Dybansta are getting paid, in the case of AJD, about 4.5M from what I have read. Say what you want about the huge NIL bag, but there is no doubt those two are committed to their team and want to win for their school and their team. Darryn Petersen on the other hand, as talented and skilled as he is, and damn is he ever, I just don't know how motivated he is to playing basketball.

I think this is a very fair point but weird to not just see him shut it down like so many players have in the past. I think the half-in and half-out approach is putting a lot more eyes on the situation than him just calling it and waiting for the draft.

I think that's probably it but that would also raise a red flag for me. He took the enormous payout and made a commitment to his teammates, coaches, University. It's lame to just be into it when you want to be.

I don't think it's cool I just think it's the most likely explanation. I also don't think it's a coincidence that their best win is without him.

I’m sure there’s examples but I can’t think of any big-time players who “shut it down” unless of course you’re referring to injuries. But as far as passion for the game I feel like you have it or you don’t. Based off talent alone he will be a great player but if he’s not truly passionate about ball, making the NBA won’t change that and his motivation will always be questioned.

Well he’s supposedly been dealing with a quad injury this year and that’s why he uses those black wraps when he’s been sitting. It definitely could be that the quad issue has been flaring up and he’s been toughing it out, but that seems like an insane decision to make if you think you could potentially make 8 figures in the NBA.

You do realize the ACC has 16 teams right?? Every P4 conf has at least 5 more teams than the BE. So yeah, all else equal they are all gonna get more teams in. If we gad 16 teams and got the same % in, we’d have 5. Would that make you feel better???

Kinda surprised that with the nba on break there isn’t a bigger slate of good college games to fill the tv void. You’d think this would be a good night to throw a Kentucky-Florida game on or something.

That very well might be the case. That also means without a doubt that NBA teams in their pre-draft interviews will ask him many questions about him missing many games and other questions to gauge his true love for the game. He will still get drafted high because his skills and talent are off the charts, but he is not really a great teammate and shown himself to be more about solely himself whereas that is not the case with Dybansta, Boozer, Kingston Flemings, Caleb Wilson, etc.

At the end of the day, even if all this is true. A player is going to be highly motivated to at the very least want to get that max deal. Zion played every game he could at Duke and has shown at this level he clearly doesn’t love the game.

I don’t think you get as good and skilled as Peterson without loving the game of basketball.

This is an interesting thought. It does feel a little stage managed for dramatic effect. It is certainly working for him.

I can’t think of another player that did something like this, but if he gets picked #1, it will happen a lot more.

Other than Anthony Bennett, Zion was the most predictable #1 pick bust in NBA draft history.

And the Anthony Bennett comparison is not fair because everyone knew Bennett sucked but it was such a terrible draft that year that the Cavaliers couldn’t move the #1 pick. No one wanted it.

There were “experts” who thought Zion would be good. But there were obvious problems. There have been two players built like Zion in NBA history that were all-star caliber. Larry Johnson was one. He was really good for a few years, and then he hit a wall physically, but toughed it out and was still productive. Charles Barkley was the other one, and he is just a freak of nature.

I don’t think Zion’s problem is passion, I think he has a build that is not conducive to NBA success.

Not sure Sir Charles was anything like the other two. He wasn't that tall, but he had crazy standing reach.

there is a problem with the way Zion is built. But when you have to have weight and workout clauses put in your contract I think that goes to show the lack of work ethic you probably have for the game, too.

I believe Bill Self for some reason when he talks about Peterson. Maybe silly but idk.
