February General CBB Discussion Thread

Hmmm - we should form our logic in a vacuum over listening to an NBA HoFer?
I can form my own logic when said NBA HoFer is factually wrong. Said NBA players opinion doesn’t supersede my opinion. It’s why NBA HoFers don’t necessarily make good GMs or coaches. When discussing something subjective there is no reason to appeal to another authority. Why? Because it’s MY eye test. When discussing something objective we only need to appeal to the facts. Which is what @superjohn and myself did. KD isn’t a higher authority than facts.

I can't wait for the stories that leak out during Peterson's pre-draft process
At a loss with DP - this is the flu? AZ has a kid coming off the bench who has the best rebounding rate in CBB.

Arizona is going to lose to some hot shooting 8/9 seed. That my prediction. They don’t shoot enough 3’s.

We want Kansas tonight, right?
It probably doesn't matter too much since we played both and Kansas is going to be a Q1A game on the road no matter what.

If you think Arizona is going to dominate the rest of their schedule, we might want to not give Kansas any chance to catch us (as potentially unlikely as that is, beating Arizona would certainly be a start). If you think there's a chance we can pass Arizona if they slip up, then we'd want Kansas.

KD and LeBron are vets, students of the game and have watched it evolve. They play the sport. And your eye test matters more?
In the current mocks, how many 6’2”
Guards are going? What do you think?

I swear you and SuperJohn are the same person with two different handles.

Unfortunately he’s that good. AJ can score, doesn’t pass or defend well. Peterson, when he isn’t taking a night off, is gifted in all phases of the game. Never seen a more annoying player. This was probably the best chance for Arizona to lose in league play.
I haven't been at all impressed with Peterson's passing/playmaking.

Absolutes aren’t helpful. Durant was part of the shift. Guy his height who can handle the ball? That was very rare. You’ve got Wemby, Chet, even guys like Tatum that used to be power forwards. The reality is taller is better. If you can do guard things there is no benefit in being shorter. So it has gotten harder and harder for small guards. They have to be really good. Doesn’t mean there is “no room” just that it’s a tougher battle than in the past.

Facts are absolute no?

The average height of an NBA pg is 6’2. We aren’t arguing if it’s easy for them to be stars. We’re arguing if the have “NBA size”. That’s an absolute unequivocal yes. I don’t care what Kevin Durant says.

Early in the year he looked really good passing the ball. I think he’s very good at it, just doesn’t really trust anyone on his team over himself. Possibly justified. Still he’s a much more complete player than AJ. Discussed it yesterday with a former coach at a prep school.

As for tonight, Tiller is playing great and it changes everything for KU. He’s so inconsistent.

Your post has nothing to do with the discussion.

If KU makes sweet 16, I can envision DP deciding to sit out if its not to his advantage. Not a team player.

It is unfortunate. I love watching Council and the rest of the team.

They will pummel any 8/9. Krivas will protect the rim and they’ll guard the line. They have two physical freaks coming off the bench too. What they do is consistent.

We'll see. Teams that don't shoot 3's are never good bets. There gonna get upset. In AZ fashion

Who says? Name them. Is that starters or all of them?

SGA is 6’6”. Luka is 6’8”. The article I saw saying it was 6’2.4” also said that is the tallest it has even been. But the other one I found says it is 6’4.

Here are the current assist leaders. Only two guys 6’2” or under near the top. Mitchell is really the only short PG among the leaders. Most of these guys are 6’4” to 6’6”. So do I believe the average including bench guys is 6’2.4”? Sure. Starters? Hell no. The starters and stars are way bigger on average.

You are completely missing the gist of the conversation. The guy said, "they wouldn't touch an NBA roster" because of their size. That is unequivocally false. We aren't talking about guys being starters, stars, and averaging assist. We are talking about making a roster. Lmao

Everywhere I've looked says 6'2.5. 6'4 is extremely high. That's definitely not true.

Mind you, Silas is 6'4...

Another nugget, while PG's are getting taller, SGs, SFs, PFs, Cs are getting smaller.

What are we even talking about?

"While NBA point guards were the tallest they've ever been at 6' 2.4", the other four positions—shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center—were the shortest they've been since the early 1980s."

I will grant you that their size and inside game mean they don’t get upset unless someone goes off. But if someone goes off they don’t really have an answer for it. Ironically tonight could have been an example. They have no answer for someone like DP dropping 36 on them. They can’t really score in bunches.
