February General CBB Discussion Thread

We'll see. Teams that don't shoot 3's are never good bets. There gonna get upset. In AZ fashion
They hold their opponents to 31% from 3. Teams that club their opponent in the paint and on the boards, have a top 2 defense, tend to do ok. But of course they will. This is a very diff AZ team than we’ve seen in the past. It’s not like they don’t shoot the 3 well, they just don’t take many because the dominate inside. Team to beat.

You are completely missing the gist of the conversation. The guy said, "they wouldn't touch an NBA roster" because of their size. That is unequivocally false. We aren't talking about guys being starters, stars, and averaging assist. We are talking about making a roster. Lmao

Mind you, Silas is 6'4...

What are we even talking about?
Read my prior post. Of course they can make a roster. But it’s getting harder and harder. Silas is 6’3” but that’s still fine as a bench PG and he doesn’t have the talent to be more than that anyway.

You have to be that much more exceptional to make the league at 6’2”.

Why hasn’t Braden Smith gotten drafted?

They remind me of 2006 UConn who was one good ball handler/shooter away.

.-.
Back to basketball. I think Kansas can still pull this off without Peterson. Almost certainly would win with him. But credit to those other guys for stepping up. He has to annoy the hell out if them.

Ooh, I know this. Because he’s still in college
Dude, feel free to put me on ignore. At minimum, the other bros do counterpoint with some interesting POV's. You on the other hand........

I don't even find your retort mildly interesting as most of it is this, or some version of it, or some type of personal jab. I wouldn't miss you.

Who says? Name them. Is that starters or all of them?

SGA is 6’6”. Luka is 6’8”. The article I saw saying it was 6’2.4” also said that is the tallest it has even been. But the other one I found says it is 6’4.

Here are the current assist leaders. Only two guys 6’2” or under near the top. Mitchell is really the only short PG among the leaders. Most of these guys are 6’4” to 6’6”. So do I believe the average including bench guys is 6’2.4”? Sure. Starters? Hell no. The starters and stars are way bigger on average.

The fact is the average NBA point guard is 6'2.6

Brunson, Curry, Mitchell, Maxey, Murray do alright.

Got it. Again, that wasn't the conversation. If the conversation was it's harder for smaller guards to be stars, id give it thought. But i'd still disagree

Tyrese Maxey
Jalen Brunson
Trae Young
Darius Garland
Donovan Mitchell
Ja Morant
De'Aron Fox
Steph Curry
Damien Liilard
Andrew Nehmbhard
Payton Pritchard
Jamal Murray
Lu Dort
Immanuel Quickley
Fred Vanvleet
Keyonte George

Are all sarters/stars at the guard position 6'4 and under

We can then go bench guys who are major contributers:

Miles McBride
TJ McConnell
Donte Divicenzo
Mike Conley
Jrue Holiday
Jamaal Shead
Colby White
Davion Mitchell
Jaden Ivey
Tre Jones
Colin Sexton
Anfernee Simons
Etc(im getting tired)

Everywhere I've looked says 6'2.5. 6'4 is extremely high. That's definitely not true.

Mind you, Silas is 6'4...

Another nugget, while PG's are getting taller, SGs, SFs, PFs, Cs are getting smaller.

What are we even talking about?

"While NBA point guards were the tallest they've ever been at 6' 2.4", the other four positions—shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center—were the shortest they've been since the early 1980s."
But Wemby and Chet can handle the ball...

IDK - Bradley and Burries can both handle and take the ball to the rim. Burries shoots threes at 37% and Bradley at 41%.

They're not deep in shooters/ball handlers, but they have more than that 2006 team. Krivas is a monster in there.

Dude half those guys are 6’4”+

I wonder what NBA teams think of all this from Peterson.
The bottom line is that scouts are now wondering out loud what's going on behind the scenes. Ironically, it comes with more certainty than ever about what they're seeing between the lines: Peterson, not Dybantsa and not Duke's Cameron Boozer, is the best prospect in this summer's draft.

The second interpretation, one that's being speculated about: That his inconsistent availability is the direct result of his agent, Darren Matsubara, and his father, Darryl Peterson, pulling all of the strings here and being overly cautious. While these whispers are not new, they've intensified since Saturday's game when Kansas Deputy AD Sean Lester came over to speak with Peterson in the middle of a stoppage in play. There are even reports, currently unconfirmed by CBS Sports, that he had previously spoken with Matsubara in the tunnel immediately prior to going over to Peterson.

Where is that a “fact”. I saw several numbers reported, that wasn’t one of them.

No they aren't, you're just making stuff up.
Half are either old or taller. I don’t care about old guys because that is irrelevant to the point that it is changing. Dame, Vanvleet, that’s the past. Trae Young isn’t a PG. Pritchard is a backup pressed into a starting role due to injury. Look at the assist leaders.

I said Mitchell and certainly Brunson are exceptions. Most of the top assist guys are taller now. You’d think UConn fans would understand this. It’s part of Hurley’s whole offense. We won’t see another RJ Cole.

"Trae Young isnt a pg".

We are in bizzaro world.

Also you can just fact check me. All of those guys are 6'4 or smaller.

Yup Braden Smith just can't cut it.

Hurley likes bigger guards because of his system. Not because smaller guards can't cut it
