Fatukasi to Jets

Fatukasi is the third Connecticut player drafted by the Jets in their 55 years and the first since they joined the NFL. In the 1963 AFL Draft they took T John Contoulis 27th overall and in the '61 AFL Draft they went with RB Bill Minnerly in Round 30 (237th overall).

Leave it to the Jets and their amazing attention to detail. It’s what helps define a winning franchise. NOT!!!

Breaking down the strengths and weaknesses of Jets’ Day 3 picks

>>FOLEY FATUKASI (No. 180, 6th round)

Position: DL
College: UConn
Age: 23
Height/Weight: 6-4/318

Strengths: Thick, sturdy frame. A strong interior lineman who projects as both a defensive end and nose tackle in Todd Bowles’ 3-4 scheme. Far Rockaway, Queens native, so Jets picking him is a homecoming.

Weaknesses: Average lateral movement. Subpar balance. Not a great pass rusher. Raw, and doesn’t have great recognition of blocking schemes.<<

Always interesting to learn more than 2-3 Jets' fans exist, but as failed a franchise as the Jets have been they actually got Foley's given name correct. Time will tell whether the Far Rockaway native makes the team, at which position, etc. Wonder if he was a Giants or Jets fan growing up.

For the record, I don't like how the Jets handle the 3-4. They've never found a true 3-4 edge rusher and have bulked up 4-3 DEs and made the part of DL rotation. When they drafted Leonard Williams they should have gone to the 4-3 with Williams and Wilkerson as ends. Yeah the Jets F up a lot but they're my team.

I think Foley will be motivated to get time at DE as opposed to consuming 2-3 interior linemen every play.

Congratulations to Foley and his family. I think he is better suited as a DT in the 4-3, but he is in the League. That is what matters.
