There was a poll on twitter recently asking which you prefer. I'm so incredibly torn.

Without a really deep look, I would say the iconic movies are close and Farley's SNL body of work are light years better than Candy on SCTV.

I had no idea Farley ever starred in an iconic movie.

I’ll take Candy’s oeuvre over Farley’s all day. Some great movies in there. SNL doesn’t really move the needle for me. I still quite like Farley though.

Candy had more range. Farley's schtick was limited to fat idiot and also he was a Candy rip-off to some extent.

Farley's SNL work and Tommy Boy are what some might call iconic.

Dismissing Farley's SNL work is crazy talk.
I enjoyed it, but I never watched it at the time and only came to it later so I don’t think it had the same impact on me as you. It wasn’t until I met my wife that I started watching as she’s a pretty big SNL devotee.

I am a Farley fan, but I think you are underestimating Candy's work on SCTV. He never got the exposure that SNL gave Farley, but some of his skits/characters are pretty damn funny. For me, the one-two of Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains & Automobiles pushes Candy to the win. I'm Buck Melanoma, Moley Russell's wart.

+1 on this. Farley was real funny and I liked his stuff. Towards the end he was a charicature of himself. And not in a good way.
Candy could be the big oaf without his whole schtick being the big oaf.

Farley died 22 years ago?

Candy was in better movies and had a better overall career, agree that his SCTV work is under-rated but certainly not as funny or culturally impactful as Farley on SNL.
Stripes, Splash, & Planes-Trains are all better movies than anything Farley did.
I think their biggest starring efforts are a draw, Uncle Buck vs Tommy Boy.
Arguably had Farley lived and had the same career longevity he could challenge Candy & would have been in something other than screwball comedies.
Bottom line, Farley more laugh out loud totally hysterically funny; Candy more consistently funny better comedic actor.

I thought Candy was funny and Farley could do cartwheels.
