I think its great that the school has embraced this instead of stopping it. As long as they only do it for the first game, it doesn't get in the way of the season.

when i was a kid, they used to do this for every game at D3 potsdam state in upstate NY. in 1985-86 they won 60 straight games. every game the PA announcer would say that if it happened again it was a tech on the home team. to this day i remember a game where potsdam started the game something like 22-0, and the students Tyler Phommachanh'ed the floor a second time, and the other teams first point came on the technical free throw after he missed the first one.

Through the 70s, this was done at every game played at the Palestra -- Penn games and Big 5 games. My understanding is they still do this at Penn games, but they throw the Tyler Phommachanh from the back towards the court and there are designated students in the first row of the student section entrusted to stop the roles from going past them onto the court.
