This week is different, UConn is hosting USAF Academy. Having many family members who have served in the armed forces, it's my opinion that these visiting student athletes get the proper respect for signing up to protect our freedom at the risk of their lives. As they enter the field from the portal, my crew will politely clap as a welcome to the RENT gesture. If, as is done after many service academy games, there is a playing of both schools' alma maters, I will stay for the entire ceremony before exiting the stadium.
That said, I (we) want the Huskies to be 6-0 at the RENT to end the home season. Sic 'em!

They deserve the same respect every visiting team deserves. No more. No less. And frankly, if you ask them they’d tell you the same thing. They are a visiting football team, not Pope Leo snd the college of Cardinals. I assume they will be doing their damnedest to beat us. I can tell you that in the past the Corp of Cadets at Air Force is not friendly or respectful to the opposition either.

We should be doing the same to them..And that includes our home fans treating them the same way we treat every team. If you stood and politely clapped when Duke entered, by all means do that. Honestly I want them as uncomfortable as possible from the minute they enter to the minute they leave. That is what home field advantage means.

And lest you think I am basing this on my own personal views, I have a family member who was an Army athlete (not football) His roommate was a football player. Both have said many times when they have on their athletic gear they just want to be treated like athletes. In a sense, it is one of the few times they have where they can just get a break from the military stuff. It is one of the few times when a plebe can tell a senior what to do!

Saturday they are football players trying to knock the snot out of our players

It is war for them and we are on the other side. This game isn't a given and our players need all the support we can give them just like last week. They need to feel uncomfortable. Gladly shake hands afterwards

Service academies are known for going for the knees. We just got done with that.

I disagree. They are student athletes competing against our student athletes. Boo them like anyone else.

PS - I am a veteran, so I'm very pro military.

i appreciate the heart. both can be true.
show some love for the men in uniform.
Then, proceed to promptly humble them on the field.

Afterwards, give them allllll the flowers.

Giving them an extra clap or two during their entrance and sticking around after the game are great ways to show appreciation for the players and their service.

During the game? Watch out for the chop blocks and treat them like any other team.

While I think the sentiment is nice...I think there's a lot of people in every game that deserve applause.

...I don't see ROTC cadets, education majors, nursing majors; etc., getting the same applause when they are going to serve the country, too! At the end of the day, everyone, including those playing or staffing for the opposing teams, should always be treated with a sense of respect and sportsmanship.

The only reason I won't boo then is because I don't have a reason to hate them. But make no mistake: if they were rivals of ours like BCU or Syracuse or Rutgers, I would boo the H E double hockey sticks out of them!

We all defend the same flag. But we defend the opposite endzones...
