Fall Practice Thread

Yeah, and everything in that report is pretty much just not the case right now. Often the opposite is the reality, actually.

That’s the thing, pretty much every recruit can do what they want in high school, college is a totally different animal, as we can see, you know, with our eyes.
Or it’s that d word you all don’t believe in on here.

We did with Solo what we’ve done with every HS player we’ve recruited since 2022… made him a shooter lol

No. Russ is an awful shooter, Solo is a great shooter.

Russ is virtually the most explosive guard we have ever seen, Solo has a middling first step and doesn’t launch when attacking the rim.

Russ is top-10 in assists all time and is an incredible playmaker, pick and roll operator, and transition leader, Solo has never showed that.

Solo has been a very poor defender, Russ in college and into the pros was a lockdown defender due to agility, anticipation, etc.

They aren’t similar players at all and never have been. End of story.

Get ready for that Solo at the point, Jacob Ross at shooting guard, and Jayden Ross at small forward lineup!
Well, at least we could be pretty confident that won't be on the opposing team's scout.

The NBA tried putting Dyson at PG during his short stint there.

There’s also Westbrook who played next to Collison at UCLA if you want to go outside of the small UConn bubble. Which has been the comp for Solo this whole time.

I think Boatright may have been considered a 2G in high school despite his size and then he went through our PG training to do what he did his senior year. Took 4 years to do though (even though he probably could’ve took over his junior year if necessary just fine).
No would have been the proper answer.

I think just playing, watching, coaching and observing basketball for 40 years?

Not seeing any natural 2Gs magically become PGs because they did some handling work?

Even in our own history under Calhoun, which HW loves to cite, did we see guys magically develop as ball handlers when they weren't coming in? Did Rashad Anderson become a better ball handler in four years? Did Dyson? Brian Fair?

Oh man, you just had to ask didn't you? Not sure love is the right word, blind obsession may be more appropriate.

Wait for it............................ t-minus the examples.

Solo should be putting the Ball on the floor a lot more this year and creating. I wouldn’t be surprised if he lead the team in assists now that he’s doing that.
This has to be a bit, right? There’s zero chance he’s finishing with more assists than Demary. I am truly confused by what you think this offense will be this year. Even if he filled the Cam role, which is miles away from the skillset he’s shown, Cam averaged 2.6 APG less than Newton. And 2 less than Diarra had last year.

So, HW has completely derailed two different threads at this point? Well done. And using high school scouting reports as proof of anything is kind of asinine. Kirk King was called a SF with ball handling and perimeter skills, Roscoe Smith was called the best shooting wing in HS, and Taliek Brown was a scoring machine. And those are just some of the ones off the top of my head.

Hurley didn't "turn him" into a shooter, despite your constant assertions to the contrary he already was one. Yes, some of the recruiting sites raved about his athleticism, ability to get downhill, etc, but his HS tape shows a really athletic kid who was great in transition and had a pure shooting stroke, not someone who regularly broke down defenders. Regardless of what some recruiting site may have said based on what he was able to do against high school kids that he outclassed athletically, it was clear to anyone with eyes and any ability to assess talent that from minute one of game one that Solo's best skill was shooting.

Basically the Skip Bayless of the Boneyard - will throw out insane hot takes with weird premise and stand by them until face turns blue, and will stir the audience up like a bunch of chickens with a fox in the coup.

You could tell Solo’s best skill was shooting from a game he went 0 for 3?

Kudos

I can't tell anymore, is this a serious statement or sarcasm?

Solo is a shooter. I do expect defensive improvement this year even if it should be a bit less critical with the team having a higher overall defensive level. I'm way more eager to see what the new guys bring, can Tarris can be the powerhouse we all believe he can be, and if JStew or JRoss will blossom this season. Heck, is Alex going to have a comeback season after last year's downturn? To be honest I care about all of those stories way more than if our top shooter will gain other skills.

Solo showed a knack for being able to knock down big, clutch shots.

He has shown to have a beautiful mid range pull up, too. So yeah, I care about him developing his ballhandling to the point we can put the ball in his hands and tell him to go get a bucket when we need it.

I think he should be totally ignored and the focus should be on other more realistic comments or replies from other posters

I think you should totally use the ignore feature that I’ll help you in using.

@temery when I ignore someone they aren’t
suppose to see my posts either right?
