Fairfield Little League World Series

I stopped watching at the end of the 5th and missed all the scoring. Ugh.
Honestly, I can't believe how much I enjoy watching the LLWS. I'm not really a baseball fan anymore but the nostalgia of Little League is really pleasant in the dead of summer. Its a great way to pass time waiting for football season. I also enjoy the CWS quite a bit too.

did not understand the announcer's explanation of getting the ball to the pitcher
Timeouts can only be called if the pitcher has the ball. Fear of baserunner from first to second makes the 2nd baseman and 1st baseman want to run the baserunner down. But team is screaming toss to the pitcher.

Me too....the nostalgia does it for me.... I'll always remember when I was 12-15 and spending my later summer vaca at my grandparents' on the central Florida coast and watching the championship game every year. I'm not even sure if any of the earlier round games were on TV pre-ESPN.

In Florida now until tomorrow - yeah August here usually 1-2 days heat advisory - been 11 so far. Stores have Halloween costumes now because it's the next holiday worth stores buying and selling. Labor Day has nada for them, just back to school stuff but most are now here. Once it passed Halloween, it's Christmas since Thanksgiving is (for now) the least monetized holiday and it's my favorite - we open our doors and sometimes get 40+ people in Jersey City. Glad it's a holiday with no real obligations, just come, bring something to eat or just your appetite.
Yeah, my “great-nephew” started school already, so the Back to School sales probably ended a week ago, lol.

You really have to live here to get the Florida summer dread. It is just 90 days of the exact same weather everyday. Throw in one, two or more tropical depressions and mix thoroughly and you start to get human depression.

So you dream about November. My dad had it right retired early from Pratt moved to Florida but bought an RV and spent his summers in New Hampshire or Maine. He also told me if I ever move to Florida don’t move further south than Daytona. He was right about that as well.
We follow that plan even though we live in Ft Myers. We stay in Daytona summer home ( 15* cooler than Ft. Myers in summer with almost no humidity) then we get 80 degrees and no humidity for 6 months till the next summer.

Usually, the lower divisions of Little League will have a rule that allows the ball to be thrown to the pitcher on the mound with the result a dead ball and the runners must return to their base. In majors Little League the ball is live until the pitcher is on the mound and the catcher is behind the plate. So, the only way to stop what Fairfield was doing was to get the runner in a pickle, run at him,... The way we taught kids to deal with what Fairfield is doing is to give the ball to the second basemen and have him watch the runner on 3rd and walk the runner back to first.

Mortadella is elite.
Wow that was my lunch today. Mortadella and fresh Mozzarella little bit of lettuce, some Italian seasoning and a sprinkle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It was delicious.

15 degrees cooler and no humidity in Daytona vs Fort Myers? What? All of Florida is hot as hell all summer. There is no "cooler than" in Florida in the summer except that the coast has a breeze and inland is even more stifling. Right now Fort Myers Beach is 90 and Daytona Beach is 88.

CT isn't 15 degrees cooler in summer half the time these days.

I'm Italian, but I've always taken issue with the big pieces of fat in mortadella. I prefer a quality ham or a good salami. (salami is full of fat, but smaller globs)

I live just south of West Palm but inland about 15 miles. It is hot here from mid June to mid October sometimes into early November before we get our first night below 75 degrees. My pool today un-chilled is right at 92 degrees.

Having spent a lot of time down there, your comments seemed off.... difference in humidity maybe.... but looking online, average summer highs in summer for Daytona and Ft. Myers are both in the high 80's. 😜

October 15th was the day the magic always happened and then over the last 5 years or so it has gotten later.

Yeah I get it as a kid when my grandfather used to force me to eat it at the tailgate parties at the meadowlands before New York Cosmo/Pele games it was always a fight.

As I got older I just acquired a taste for it. My go too lunch everyday in Jr High was Genoa salami and cheese on Italian bread. I was not getting prosciutto or capocollo/capicola sandwiches.

The humidity is no different either. It is always hot everywhere south of New Jersey in the summer, especially these days. Humidity is staggering in summer for the entire state of Florida. The beach breeze on both the east and west coast is huge though. My guess is Nikki stays on the beach in Daytona but lives inland in Ft Myers.

That is the way I think it's done.

BTW, the strength of the Fairfield team is their best players are down the middle of the field. Their center fielder, their pitcher and their catcher are top notch. An important core for a team. Throw in a steady SS/2B and "the rest", and you have a good team.

I'm out on the far western panhandle. Mid-July through August is just brutal.

First two weeks of July are brutal but with 4th of July and Blue Angel Pensacola Beach airshow during the first two weeks, you have too much fun to care. Then you realize it's 7 weeks to Labor Day.

I like getting frost in the winter, seeing hardwood trees change colors, wearing slacks and a light jacket and needing socks for sandals.

October, November and December are perfect months.

Don’t wish summer away.
It’s interesting we can’t wait for summer to be over in AZ . Even the kids the parks are deserted all summer.
Because they only get 5 weeks when it’s hot , 2wks the last week in Sept first of Oct.
Then 3 weeks for Christmas plus a couple of more. In the spring
I spent the last 5-6 late summers to fall in Ct . ,,,,Summer is over for me
The weather will be perfect when I return ,the bad news I’m not staying long enough to catch a UConn BB game this year .
I can’t get anyone interested in a football game

You might be able to get them interested in football this season. We are going undefeated.

Snoozey gets out of a bases loaded jam up 1-0 in the 5th down 3-1 in the count. Got him in a backwards K - you might say, you Snoozen you Losin.

LOL, guy wants us to believe you can avoid humidity in Florida.

I never thought I would hear someone say they own a summer home in Daytona.
