Fagnano and Bell are out for the Wasabi Bowl

Does anyone else feel this bowl game is rather anticlimactic? With the departure of our head coach, interim head coach, and several players, and after a long break (it will be over a month since the FAU game), it feels like all momentum from a successful season is gone and that the game is pointless. It doesn't even feel like the same team. Who will be handling head coaching duties? I know it's a business, but this all really puts a damper on things.

Should be in every NIL contract.

1) yesx1000
2) one sticking point - they need to fix the schedule to protect bowl games from portal announcements.

For these 2 though - this is tougher. Looking at the injuries sustained by iffy tackling in AFA, combined with cold weather and coaching transition? I don't like it, but it's more understandable

My group was on fence. Looks like we will be skipping the bowl game as well. UConn can’t expect fans to spend money on this event when the starting WB and #1 receiver don’t think the game is worth playing in. Surprising Fagano is sitting out when the game will most likely be his last game in his career.

If they could play last year, they can easily play this year. What’s changed?

Disappointing to say the least

You support and root for these players. Then they have a good year and it’s all about them.

Really hard to support this system that is such an to the fans they want to attend and watch the games.

I think the NCAA could mandate that players play in bowl games as part of their NIL contracts. I don’t see how it would meet institutional resistance. It benefits everyone except the player that doesn’t want to play. Frankly, the players have plenty now. It’s time to start worrying about the actual paying fans again.

Without those guys playing, we have no chance to win the game and we will likely have a poor fan showing too. Why play the game? Oh, because the schools and everyone associated with the bowl get a paycheck and the fans can still be guilted into wasting their money on a garbage game. I’d go if I lived in Boston, that’s about it. No point showing up to watch our second and third string get run over by Army in the cold. It just isn’t fair to the fans.

I understand your point but fans should go to support Uconn. You bailing is kind of mirroring what they are doing. Of course everyone is free to do what they want with their time and money but I think its important to do our part.

And everyone wonders why Notre Dame isn’t going to a bowl. Why would you unless it’s the playoffs, they don’t mean squat any more and no kid looking to play next level would be dumb enough to participate and get hurt. Don’t blame them at all.

This ain't right at all Bell I at least understand if he's gonna be drafted high. Joe I really don't understand. I get individual decisions at sake but I'm sorry asking fans to contribute to NIL and players sitting out bowl games isn't fair. You can't have it both ways. Is this official btw if fans are being kept in the dark about this that's really not right.

I knew when Mcaffrey sat out the bowl game it was gonna set a bad precedent. This is going to have an effect on the NFL btw. I don't blame the players but I blame that has been set up with zero structure.

This whole situation, starting with Mora and the utter disintegration of a very lovable program with a group of great players bailing and others having no apparent desire to finish with a historic 10Ws as a matter of team pride is utterly tragic. Really breaks my heart to see what’s happened to the game and is fans are just wallets to be abused.

Nope. Not what us fans signed up for and shell out $$ for. Seems like everybody has their hands out and takes care of themselves except the fans and NIL supporters.

This 💩 has to stop. It’s not right.

I have to admit, I'm genuinely disappointed that they've chosen not to participate. I’ll view these guys differently as they move on. I probably won’t care now, not worth my time.

While I understand the modern landscape of college sports is heavily influenced by business considerations and personal finance, these players are compensated professionals, and that compensation comes with an expectation of commitment through the entire season.

It's an interesting contrast when you look at how professionals often continue to compete, even when their team's season is essentially over. See the NY Giants. That professional standard of showing up and competing for every game is what you expect when the checks are clearing. I am particularly frustrated with Fagnano, given his path to where he is today. And while I acknowledge Bell has dealt with some significant hits recently, the fact remains: they are both paid to perform.
