It looks like the game will fill up the lower two decks and bleachers, but that the stadium will not having anyone in the upper deck. From what I can gather, Yankee Stadium holds 54,000 for football (ND/Army had 54,240), with about 20,000 seats in the upper deck. So anywhere between 30-34,000 would be solid.

How does that compare to other games?

Rutgers (at the time 6-3) drew 30,000 against Army in 2011, and Syracuse in a bowl against Kansas State got 38,000. So not terrible, but I don't think it is quite what we were hoping. Perhaps the nice outlook for Saturday can draw a few extras from Fairfield County down to the game.

What were we realistically hoping pray tell?

Don't be a dic&. There were tons of threads when this game was announced hoping for 40k.

If you looked at the brochure sent out by the athletic department in the spring, it was abundantly clear that the Yankees were not selling tickets for the upper deck as it was grayed out. This would preclude an attendance of > 40K.

If you looked at the Men's Hockey opening day map, it was abundantly clear they were not selling seats on the large upper deck. Until they opened them up today, because if you have the seats and the demand is there you sell the tickets. If this game was sold out in September, they would have opened the upper deck.

Anything north of 30K would be a good turnout. If it approaches 34K the people should be ecstatic. UConn has a fair weathered fan base (most schools do) and if this team was 4-4 or 5-3 I'd expect at least 35-40K, but with how the year has gone I'll be surprised (pleasantly) if it exceeds 30K Saturday.

Here are some posted attendance marks from the NY/NJ area in the past 4-5 years:

Regular Season:
61,202 - Penn State vs Syracuse (MetLife - 2013)...thanks to a majority PSU crowd
54,251 - Notre Dame @ Army (Yankee Stadium - 2010)
41,292 - Rutgers vs Army (MetLife Stadium "New Meadowlands Stadium" - 2010)
39,507 - Syracuse vs USC (MetLife Stadium - 2012)
30,028 - Rutgers @ Army (Yankee Stadium - 2012)

Bowl games:
47,122 - Notre Dame vs Rutgers (Pinstripe Bowl Yankee Stadium - 2013)
39,098 - Syracuse vs WVU (Pinstripe Bowl Yankee Stadium - 2012)
38,328 - Rutgers vs Iowa State (Pinstripe Bowl Yankee Stadium - 2011)
38,274 - Syracuse vs Kansas State (Pinstripe Bowl Yankee Stadium - 2010)

In this crappy sh1tstorm of a season, I would be thrilled to death to beat the 2012 RU/Army mark.

looking at the ticketmaster seating earlier, it didn't look like many seats were available.
Didn't actually do a count, but I was surprised by the lack of seating options.

Going to the game but going to buy a scalped ticket.

Personally I found the prices to be really high oonline.
