I tend to think he was right although it came off sounding like sour grapes. The referees had a big role in the outcome of the men’s game and that is all that scares me tonight against ND. With limited depth if the refs decide to favor ND as they have in the past it could drastically influence the outcome of game.

Its hard for coaches to reconcile that we play this defense all year without getting any of players/team in serious foul trouble. In the 1st half if I recall correctly Wisconsin only had two fouls called on them. 2nd half in less then 9 minutes, Duke is already in the Bonus and end up in Double Bonus with 7+ minutes left in the game. Yes, Wisconsin has to adjust to how the game is being called, but Officiating was a Hop Topic throughout the Tournament. Still Wisconsin had a chance to win the game, and just didn't execute in the latter stages of the game. Refs impacted the game, but IMHO it was more Wisconsin not executing that cost them the game.

We'll also watch tonight's game to see how the Refs officiate the game and probably complain just like Wisconsin did if all of a sudden after all year being one of the best teams at not committing fouls, UConn players get into serious foul trouble.

Refs didn't affect the outcome. Wisconsin wasn't complaining T halftime when they had only been called for 2 fouls despite Duke attacking. They didn't mind that the only guys in foul trouble were Duke players.

It's getting old for a team to blame the officials. Maybe they miss a call on one end. Be honest with yourself and admit they missed one on the other end too. It evens out.

I had a problem with the illegal screens. Players constantly moving and leaning in on the defender trying to get over the screen. That said, I think Bo Ryan blew it when he did not call timeout with a little over 4 minutes remaining. Frank looked gassed and they had the ball and 3 timeouts remaining.

K outcoached Ryan, plain and simple. Did Wisconsin run a single play in the last 15 minutes? I don't care too much for K, but he earned his fat check last night.

The refs missed two big calls that may have been game changers;

1. The play where the Duke player stepped out of bounds- the refs may have been out of position.

2. The charge on the fast break layup by the Duke forward.

The refs sucked.

What happened to Wisconsin at the end of the game is the same thing that got UCONN beat by Stanford. Bad "Help" defense on pick and rolls by the guards and the guard just flat out beating his man for those layups. Kaminnsky should've been swatting those shots down his throat. They also depended on him too much at the end of the game for offense.

There's a difference between missing calls in real time versus watching a bunch of replays in HD and STILL getting in wrong.

Those three bozos should be forced to return their pay checks from last night.

My thing is, if you are blaming the officials for your team losing, you should have the stones to give the officials credit for your team winning. There are always going to bad calls in a game. It happens! Did Bo give the officials credit for Wisconsin's win against Kentucky? I don't recall. Did Bo give the officials credit for the way the 1st half was called? Nope. There were plenty of No-calls for Wisconsin players when the Duke players were driving the lane and getting touched up in that 1st half. Duke got called with some iffy calls in that 1st half. Wisconsin was up 9 points. Instead of attacking and keeping the pressure on Duke, Wisconsin goes into conservative mode on offense. That gets you everytime.

Shhhh... Bo doesn't want to acknowledge the missed shot clock violation that helped him beat Kentucky. He wants to focus on how refs cheated him.

It all evens out. Don't whine. Just play.

I was rooting for Wisconsin (Frank the Tank!). The refs MAY blown a few calls and the coach SHOULD have called a timeout to call a play and give his team a breather towards the end of the game... but, in the end, the team that made plays when it counted won the game. Tyus Jones was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four after he and guard Grayson Allen propelled the Blue Devils in the 2nd half. The award could easily have gone to Allen who was courageous but it was well deserved by Tyrus who brought it home in the end. They made big shots, hit FTs and got it to the open man when it counted.

Agree 100%. You can't have it both ways. Wisconsin got a HUGE break when Hayes shot after the shot clock went off and was able to tie the game. Duke got their share of calls in the game, but they also outplayed Wisconsin and executed down the stretch, the same way Wisconsin did against Kentucky two nights earlier. I also thought it was a bit of a low blow that Ryan indirectly referred to Duke as a "Rent a Player" program. I normally like Bo Ryan and think he is an outstanding coach, but he was a poor sport and sore loser last night.

The shot clock violation was a bad call but NOT reviewable. The same refs reviewed the hand chop to the Wisconsin player's face and did nothing. If anything, Kentucky got the calls. Last night, the refs blatantly screwed up reviewed calls. How do you explain that?

No, it doesn't always even out. On the men's side, Duke benefits from ref bias. On the women's side it is ND. There is a reason this topic comes up over and over again with these teams. The first half of last night's game was called fairly. What happened in the second half was flat out criminal and deserves an investigation. It makes college basketball look like professional wrestling.

wait... folks are saying the men's officiating sucks??? I thought they were brilliant and it was only the women's side that had crappy refs.... lol

Thank you. I get tired of all the ref apologists who come out to defend the refs every time they directly impact a game. There was a definite cause and effect on the officiating after K gave them hell at halftime. You can always point to one or two plays and say, see they evened out. You need to look at the overall flow of the game that was definitely impacted by last nights refs.

I agree with you. Criticism of officiating has always been a pet peave of mine. With today's' incredible athletes, all sports take place at mega speed. The officials have to see so much, often while running themselves, moments that occur in microseconds and from an infinite variety of angles.

Football players drop balls, basketball players throw balls out of bounds and double dribble, baseball players watch grounders go through their legs, coaches make really terrible decisions but somehow we expect referees, umpires and officials to be infallible.

We the fans have all of the advantages of slow motion instant replays which we watch over and over and often still can't agree on a call. We could add 10 more cameras, review plays by committee and add all kinds of technology to "get it right". But I for one enjoy the human element of sports, officiating included. Sure, when a call goes against my team, I'll yell at the TV too.

Many fans think that there's some kind of conspiracy against their team. I personally don't think that UCONN should have any complaints. Our players don't foul out because they play really smart defense, they know how to stay vertical, they don't leave their feet when they shouldn't and they stay in front of the players that they are guarding.

I don't worry about officiating as some others do. Very simply, if we execute our game, we win.

I have nothing for Ktuck or Cal but you forgot to mention the player coming in from out of bounds and scoring with out establishing any position. Also The Tank traveled twice on the same basket and the announcers were all over both of those along with the shot clock thingy. I was very surprised that Cal did not get teed up intentionally to change what was going on.
I think all can rest assured if Geno sees some of the stuff we did in that game we will see Chris being towed by his coat tail to about mid court. Now should he plan the old rip the jacket off and throw it on the chair she will have to use the football type block with Shea back up. Of course he would take a tee but not go far enough to get tossed in the big one. A little  :mad: with a follow up of :) on the next good call, add sarcasm.
