Like Coach Warlick has done a better job with very talented players
if only Tara had their talent level...agree neither has done superbly but JPM seems to also drive the players AWAY (as opposed to dealing with Mercedes Russell's foot injuries). I don't have skin in the game on either team.

Hope they upgrade their Out of conference schedule.. and maybe get a few good wins.

USF WBB has upgraded its OOC schedule. There is a good chance we might face Baylor in the Preseason WNIT Tournament. .

Here is a link to a story on our schedule.

http://www.gousfbulls.com/ViewArtic...924&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=7700&ATCLID=210229787

BTW, both the USF Men's and Women's basketball teams are currently in Spain. They still have one game to play before returning home.

Here is a link to games on that trip.

http://www.gousfbulls.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=7700&ATCLID=210255913

You can follow USF WBB on twitter, which has many pics from Spain.

https://twitter.com/USFWBB

Of course I am somewhat biased, but USF WILL be at least a top 16 team this season!

Looking forward to playing UCONN once again.

Good luck, although you don't need any. :)

Mid August updated predictions.

1) UCONN
2) South Carolina
3) Notre Dame
4) Baylor
5) Duke
6) Florida State
7) Maryland
8) TENN
9) Ohio State
10) Texas

Mine would be:
1. UCONN-Should be about 4 steps ahead of anyone else in the country.

2. Baylor-Should have their deepest team ever, Jones could be a difference maker on the perimeter. Lots of young talent on this roster.

3. Notre Dame-Turner should evolve into a dominant force this year and Allen will establish herself as one of the top point guards. Most importantly, they have Muffett back on the sideline. I still think it will be UCONN-Notre Dame showdown for the 3rd year in a row.

4. South Carolina-A'ja Wilson will take on a bigger role this year. Between her, Coates and the talented transfer, they'll be more than able to make up for what is lost by Ibiam and Welch.

5. Florida State-They were very very good, and they'll be even better this year. Tons of talent returning led by Romero and Bulgak. Should have their best shot for a Final Four during the Semrau era.

6. Tennessee-They nearly made the Final Four a year ago and should be better if Russell/DeShields are healthy. They have a strong core of players and finally have super star caliber leaders that can get them over the hump. Will it happen? We'll see.

7. Oregon State-Everybody back from a really solid team last year. They won the Pac-12 and have a balanced starting 5.

8. Maryland-Losing Brown is a big blow, but they have 2 other outstanding sophomores in Walker-Kimbrough and Jones. They will not be as good as they were this year, but they'll still be a Big Ten favorite.

9. Ohio State-Can't wait to see year 2 of the Kelsey Mitchell show. She is outstanding and should have more help this year. I think they are two years away from being a true top dog, but they are on the rise and a dark horse Final Four team.

10. Duke-They'll be a year older and have some good players coming in, but I think they are still a year away from making any real noise when they bring in another solid class and Lexie Brown.

From what I saw in Italy trip. I was impressed with Cooper. Russell looked healthy and getting back in to the flow. I think she improved from WUG games. Jones back adds a player who can defend. I agree Tennessee lost a good senior class. With some good leadership. This team adds to Game changers in DeShields and Russell.

Actually Duke has no verbals for 2016 as of yet.

Back in the day when widespread hope existed on this Board that Diamond would play for UConn, her abundant talents were extravagantly recognized. Interesting how she suddenly became a less-valued commodity when she elected to go elsewhere. Sorry, but she's the real deal, as is that Freshman guard Tenn has coming in....they will be formidable, and, even if Vol-hate is in our collective DNA, Holly will do just fine with them. I put them and ND ahead of SC for next year.
What makes you feel like people think she isn't valuable?

There have too many changes for that list to be legitimate. As the headline says Way-too-early Top 25, and it was way too early.

You have EXTREMELY high expectations for Russell. Elizabeth Williams was one of the best ACC post defenders last season and she wasn't even a "game changer" and I'm not quite sure Russell is better than a collegiate Liz and she isn't exactly getting better coaching. I do agree with DD though. Ps. If you respond I'm not interested in hearing about Russel injury past and how she's now 100% blah blah I'm VERY familiar. I wish your team luck this year though.

From what I've seen and heard about Russell. She is moving much better. Than she did her freshman year. I think that is not only good for her but the team. That's why I said I think she is a game changer. We will how improved she is one the season gets started.

She's a VERY important piece to the puzzle for tenn to return to the final four. I'm not saying she won't be a game changer but RIGHT now tenn has one game changer and that's DD. Most teams don't have that.

To better help you understand my point, Becca greenwall is arguably duke 2nd best player but she's NOT a game changer she's a deadly spot up shooter. That's an important piece to the puzzle for Duke to try and make it to the final 4. Did I just put Duke in final 4 in the same sentence?

I understand. I do agree for now. I just expect a big year for her. Much better than her freshman year.

Oh so do I. I will definetly be watching her this year. A player I will ask you to watch out for on Duke is Oderah Chidom.

GClearly, UCONN is #1 by a wide margin.

I won't bother to list the next 9 teams, since none of them will beat UCONN. LOL

Having said that, It would not surprise me if USF was ranked inside the top 10 (even with three losses to UCONN during the season).

Why do I say that?

Because, USF had a fairly young team last year.

We bring back all of our starters and seven of eight top scorers.

In addition, we have addressed two of our needs, by bringing in a top 3-point specialist Kitija Laksa from Latvia and a big JUCO, F/C Nancy Warioba, from Kenya.

So, USF should be considerably better this year.

Last year was an important learning experience for USF where they got a taste of what it's like to be a top 25 team. They want more this time around and I really don't see them losing to anybody outside the top 10.

I believe we only lost to two teams outside the top 10 last year, SJU ,early in the season, and split with ECU. We won't lose to either of them when we play this year.

Of course, fans of teams other than UCONN, often have preseason expectations that are unmet.

Injuries to key players and other unforeseen events, could change how I feel down the road, but at this moment, I'll stand by my prediction. :)

Would have to agree...as mentioned in a previous post..."it wouldn't surprise this Husky fan if, at the end of the year, this team is considered the best ever."

2. Baylor-Should have their deepest team ever, Jones could be a difference maker on the perimeter. Lots of young talent on this roster.

She'll have the height necessary to compete with bigger teams, and while many of will always wonder how she only nabbed one ring with Griner and Sims, Kim gets it done

3. Notre Dame-Turner should evolve into a dominant force this year and Allen will establish herself as one of the top point guards. Most importantly, they have Muffett back on the sideline. I still think it will be UCONN-Notre Dame showdown for the 3rd year in a row.
She has proven, after Geno, to make the most of what she has - their movement without the ball is second only to the Huskies

4. South Carolina-A'ja Wilson will take on a bigger role this year. Between her, Coates and the talented transfer, they'll be more than able to make up for what is lost by Ibiam and Welch.
While Dawn does a good job as Coach (and for my money, her tenure as Geno's #2 has been a big help to her - you think its any coincidence that there no tweeting policy "during the season" is fairly recent?), I'll repeat the comments to Creme's picking them #2 last year, "However, hopefully Staley's Gamecocks offensive production will improve next year and consist of more than just a overpowering opponents underneath the basket. We will see." Don't think this has changed much. And, while AJ does well close to the basket, she not as talented as Turner. Additionally, despite their additions, making up for a "go to" player like Welch, who was tough as nails, isn't easy. (by the way, while my life was spent growing up as a Military brat, and spending a career in as well, my BA is from USC - yes, this one)

5. Florida State-They were very very good, and they'll be even better this year. Tons of talent returning led by Romero and Bulgak. Should have their best shot for a Final Four during the Semrau era. Plain and simple, Sue can coach.

6. Tennessee-They nearly made the Final Four a year ago and should be better if Russell/DeShields are healthy. They have a strong core of players and finally have super star caliber leaders that can get them over the hump. Will it happen? We'll see. With all due respect to the Vol fans who, over the last couple of years, have, with more frequency, seen fit to support their team on the Boneyard, I don't see things changing. As far as Russell or the Vols being better....prove it. Diamond is a talent, no doubt. WCBB writers, especially the ESPN crew, have given the Vols the benefit of the doubt year after year after year.....pre-season pick for the final four every year, and yet, they have yet to live up to their billing since...when was their last Elite Eight victory? It's all about putting the pieces together....why would we think this year will be any different?

7. Oregon State-Everybody back from a really solid team last year. They won the Pac-12 and have a balanced starting 5.
They'll be better than last year

8. Maryland-Losing Brown is a big blow, but they have 2 other outstanding sophomores in Walker-Kimbrough and Jones. They will not be as good as they were this year, but they'll still be a Big Ten favorite.
Maybe the BIG10 favorite, but give me the Buckeyes based on coaching.

9. Ohio State-Can't wait to see year 2 of the Kelsey Mitchell show. She is outstanding and should have more help this year. I think they are two years away from being a true top dog, but they are on the rise and a dark horse Final Four team - agreed, certainly, Elite Eight

10. Duke-They'll be a year older and have some good players coming in, but I think they are still a year away from making any real noise when they bring in another solid class and Lexie Brown.
Lots 0f talent....if she doesn't get to the Final Four with the talent she has, give me Courtney

And, would have to agree with USF's rise, we know Fernandez can coach. Lastly, Vic Shaefer has done a spectacular job at Miss St. and now he's got some legitimate height with McCowan on board - the SEC championship may not be too far off.

LMAOOO! You must not have been around when DeShields decided to go elsewhere????
Maybe not. Value is all about perception. Either way I don't much care, just hope the kid is happy where she is at this time.

Diamond Deshields, like her or not, is very much the real deal. That Cooper kid looks fabulous. With all the other talent they have, the key for the Vols is whether or not 6'6" Mercedes Russell is healthy and playing to her potential...if that happens, look out...Tennessee will be back. I guess I'm in the minority, but I'm hoping this is the case. With Pat's departure and her early dementia issues, hating UT just ain't as much fun as it used to be, at least for me. What WCBB desperately needs is more bitterly intense rivalries and fuller arenas. Nothing would be a bigger step in that direction as the reemergence of the Vols as a perennial Final Four contender. This is Holly's big opportunity to prove herself. I hope she does, and that I can start to "hate" her and her team the same way I "hate" Muffett and hers...with a bit of fear and lots of respect. Same for Dawn. Geno is not immortal, and the absolute UConn hegemony cannot, alas, last forever...but I ardently wish for UConn to be one of several always elite programs that fight it out annually for top recruiting talent and National Championships. It's inevitable, I think, that Tenn will be one of those...that's fine with me....bring 'em on!

Here on the Boneyard, we always considered Simmons to be a sort of a game-changer - but perhaps not in the way Pat envisioned when she recruited her.

Good luck to an injury free season for your team. We want you at full strength if/when you ever play UConn again.;)

thanks. Yes Simmons was a scorer. She had also to play her first two years without a true of. She had to play out of position at times. I do think that Diamond has a better overall game. Diamond skill on both offense and defense. I think Russell is already improved from her freshman year. I think if this team plays without any major injuries. This team will be extremely good.

USF had way too many close games last year to justify a prediction not losing to anyone outside top 10. Just look at your first too games of the season which were: 1 Point win against Illinois and 2 point win against UT Chattanooga. PSU (yes that PSU) took you to overtime and you only beat Memphis by 4 points. I would wait for rest of the USF out of conference schedule before predicting and allow for the possibility that SJU and/or ECU also got better. I remember a similar theory about a team getting better just by playing UCONN 3 times in 1 year. Trouble is I have never seen that theory produce any meaningful results.
