I don't always win championships, but when I do, I prefer Helms.

Makes me wonder what KU could do with 11 conference championships if they had the Syracuse t-shirt guys on their side.

For perspective, my father saw a lot of outstanding basketball between 1989-1997, but never lived to see even 1 National Championship.

Off topic: Self is a terrible coach... Roster is always stacked and he can't produce.. The Kansas team this year has every position and role filled and still struggle.. Ive watched a lot of KU ball and they rarely come out ready to play (seems like Self just hopes the talent will win it) and I get so confused at some of the sets they run when they really need a basket. WVU game at WVU is a prime example of terrible coaching, Kansas shouldve walked away with an easy win ...Sorry for the rant but I hate how overrated Self is...

Nice awards? He recruits like a champ.... When it comes to the tourney he can't get his team ready... Look at the roster he has this year! Stacked in every position full off size and skill and they still struggle...

Would you take 11 of the cube steaks or 4 filets?
Would you take 11 Ford Mavericks or 4 Mustang GTs?
Would you take 11 UConn cheerleaders or 4 from South Florida?
Those sun girls at USF...

Bill Self wins big at Kansas, did the same thing at Illinois and did really well at Tulsa. Yes there have been some upsets, but when you're a 1-2-3 seed every single season, you're going to lose some winnable games in a one-and-done tournament.
About 350 Division 1 teams would be lucky to have him.

Really thats the argument for him? Look at his rosters and look at his results....Like Cal he gets wins due to talent...Obviously majority of schools would die to have him but I am not one to call someone a great coach based on recruiting... His players rarely come out ready to play and the calls he makes especially late in games are not pretty... Look at that game vs Mich in the tourney where they blew a 14 or 15 pt lead.... That team was stackkkked with seniors and elite players..Idunno I can see where your coming from but then I just watch KU and dont get how they dont do more each year....

There is no doubt Self has under-achieved in the tournament more times than not, but he's made enough runs where he has earned the benefit of the doubt. Not only did he win a national championship in one of the most loaded final four fields ever, but he also took a very thin team to the finals just three years ago. I mean seriously, look at the roster he took to the finals three years ago - Tyshawn Taylor, Thomas Robinson, Jeff Withey, Elijah Johnson...with the exception of Robinson, these are not household names. Self hasn't started to drag in one and dones until recently. Obviously he has had talent, but he hasn't had as much as Kentucky or Duke and he has mostly won as much as those schools.

Agree with you but that roster was actually really good.. Taylor was really good and I would def take Jeff Withey on my squad.. Kid could block everything...I watch his teams and the sets they call are so questionable.. So many Isos and bad shots when they have grown men inside that can score at will..The past few games they finally get Ellis involved early and you see the numbers he can put up.. But I guess I over exaggerated with my claim of terrible coach..
