Loyalty as an irrational selection factor when it shouldn't be part of (or much of) the equation is one of the reasons it seldom works out. And Geno is an exceptionally loyal guy. Loyalty to Shea, for instance, could cloud his judgment and cause him to lean more to the, "no head coaching experience is no big deal" side than what really makes sense.

Loyalty is not an irrational selection factor. It provides continuity, inspires loyalty institutionally and maintains brand. That is all pretty fundamental stuff.

Regarding Shea, yes she does not have experience as a head coach, but she does does have experience as a UConn coach. She knows what we do and why. Those are big pluses.

With a baby at home now, it may not be something she wants. I know they all need to do a lot, but the head coach gets to do even more.
